The Astral Series is the first EP on Beat Machine by the elusive London based producer J-Shadow. He’s establishing his name among artists that defy genres limitations and push the boundaries to unprecedented results. After a series of outstanding releases on several emerging labels, his new work continues the journey with an escalation of atmospheric scenarios that linger between the cold darkness of the Unknown and the comforting vision of a familiar figure.

Starting off with a propulsive yet exotic sounding track (Orlov’s Casket), the producer sets the tone for an impetuous Astral expedition punctuated by his signature warbling bass lines, frantic drum’n’bass and moody ambient interludes. It reaches the climax with Nxt1 featuring ominous and rough grime beats, cleverly balanced by the surreal spaces explored in Voyager. The Contact with the new dimension is now taking place, and it feels deeper and more mysterious than expected. Another level of intensity is eventually achieved in Nxt1 remix by ... a powerful belter shaped by the inimitable low-end density of the Dubstep doyen.

The journey has a new starting point.

This video footage is from my recent trip to Amsterdam with the brothers again. Amazing break full of nothing but laughter, inspirational talks and some downtime.

Amsterdam is such a great place  personally for myself not just for the local herbs LOL but the general energy I get when I am over there. Nothing but motivation, hunger and focus.

I was surprised when we went clubbing that the main genre that kept the party jumping was reggae/ dancehall based influence which is becoming very popular in numerous parts of the world.

My ammunition stack has all genres HAHA so it was only right that I release it this week. Happy Friday and definitely get on soundcloud to add it to your going out playlist! its a WAVE!

Across our tenure as a platform, we've been privileged enough to host a number of tracks from one of our favourite and hottest-tipped upcoming producers - 9TRANE. In the past, we've premiered 'Karbon' & his exceptional remix of Hedchef's 'Transparency Illusion', both deep, bassy creakers that bubble away nicely in the murky, UK Bass bracket. This latest effort, however, may be the finest of the bunch. Debuting on the essential, multi-faceted independent record label, promotional channel & online bass music platform Simply Deep, 9TRANE has come in clutch with a stonking remix of the ultra-talented J-Shadow's 'Modulator'. J-Shadow - Modulator (9TRANE Remix) [Simply Deep] [OTW Premiere]

"For our 23rd EP release we welcome experimental production wizard J-Shadow for his long-awaited debut release on Simply Deep. Standing at 5 original tracks and 3 remixes making this Simply Deep's biggest outing since Korin Complex's 'No Statement' release.

J-Shadow is a London based producer who has plenty of DJs supporting his sound; names such as Mumdance, Blackdown & Zenker Brothers to name just a few, not forgetting features on respectable publications such as FACT, DJ Mag, Crack Magazine, Bleep & more. To add to the impressive background from J-Shadow he recently released an EP with Beat Machine featuring a remix from the legendary Gantz.

Beginning the story of this release we have the title track 'Modulator', a spacious 132BPM number forming the core of the EP. This song really opens up around the 4 minute mark with an array of break-beat percussions varying in dynamic and rhythms which could easily hold a candle to break-beat veteran Special Request.

'Gene and Defect' takes a much heavier turn alternating between wobbly LFO's, heavy pulsating synths and industrial styled percussion. 'Side-Step' takes a more broken approach, similar to Modulator, with tasty accented basslines for the first half and a synth-pad breakdown in the middle of the track to leave the hairs on your arms standing upright. 'Inflation' brings us back to the heavier parameters of before with massive stabbing synths combined with alternating drum and bass patterns to keep you in suspense till the final moments of the track.

'Glaciers' finishes off J-Shadow's original tracks perfectly with all the standout qualities from the previous tracks - emotional synth breakdowns, massive basslines and sexy break-beat drums when necessary.

On remix duties we welcome back into the fold Jubley & Pro.Tone with an exciting addition to the Simply Deep roster man like 9TRANE. These artists all picked 'Modulator' for their weapon of choice, each delivering imaginative results whilst representing their signature styles.

J-Shadow hops between inspirations from UK Bass, Jungle & Grime fluently whilst his experimental tracks reflect his fascination of the physical world and perceived reality. J-Shadow has a bright future and isn't a force to be taken lightly."

J-Shadow - Modulator (Jubley Remix)

Amongst the regular premieres and features as a promotional platform, Simply Deep has also emerged as a respectable label throughout the last few years. Welcoming names such as Opus, Imajika and most recently Ome to the label shows these guys know what they're doing and look to keep a firm ear to the ground. Their latest instalment welcomes London based J-Shadow with 'Modulator' EP. I'll be honest and say this is my first experience of J-Shadow's music, but looking at this EP and previous works, it's evident he takes influence throughout UK bass music and doesn't constrain himself to a particular style nor tempo. Looking at this latest release, J-Shadow experiments with unusual patterns and creative sampling with a focus to make much of it dance floor friendly. None more so than today's premiere, a remix of the EP's title track 'Modulator' by Mexico's very own Pro:Tone.

Established digital platform Simply Deep continue their quest to expose new names to the masses this week, as Crimson hits the buttons for his debut EP, 'Logos'. The unknown Berlin based producer announces himself with five brand new tough, multi-faceted tunes plus two remixes, a regular occurrence on a SD release. Today I have the pleasure of presenting one of those remixes, J-Shadow's take on Crimson's 'Sktch'.
