“In My Head” is the product of Philia’s most recent dive into house music while still keeping his signature use of granulation and ambience. The song was written during arguably Philia’s toughest battle with anxiety and finding his way in the world. Uniquely this is what made this song so impactful and interesting at its core. If you really listen, the song itself is a bubbly, bouncy house driven track that makes you want to move your feet and enjoy life at its fullest. The lyrics however, which Philia carefully sampled and played with contradict this premise and share feelings of loneliness and struggles of love while being young. Together these two elements dance gracefully together to create something truly interesting. “In My Head” is a track that can both be played at 2 AM, and in your bed alone. It perfectly dissects what life is in your early 20’s, a constant battle between freedom and feeling caged .“In My Head” takes influences from the likes of Kasbo, Mochakk, and Disclosure, which can be heard at various points during this song especially during the bridge where you can hear the ambience of Kasbo mixing with that signature chorus that is heard on so many disclosure records followed by a thumping bassline inspired by Mochakk’s song Jealous. “In My Head” is sure to be one of Philia’s greatest singles to date, and even more prove the intricate worlds his songs create.

Boom! So John B wanted to make this little spooky remix with us in time for Halloween. The main mix is Drum N Bass but we made a house version too, and not a rip off of the Hi Tack version - something different.

So I just found the original 2005 demo dub version of It Doesn't Stop on my hard drive and it still kicks hard! This version got played a lot on Radio One off an mp3 I mailed in even though it was just a download off forums etc. I always liked the idea that the answer to "Don't Stop Till You Get Enough" was "It DOESN'T stop!" and to make a track that just went around and around doing the same thing over and over again without stopping. Maybe that was a bit too meta. It's a thin line between stupid and clever.

A catchy-af tune commemorating a moment when Phoole's pal Chloe couldn't wait to wear some underwear she'd just bought, so she pulled them on over her jeans, instantly inspiring the 'Panties On the Outsiiiiide' refrain of the tune! 

This is Phoole's debut single as singer/songwriter! Host/presenter of nearly 300 episodes of her weekly interactive dance music and chat webcast Phoole & the Gang, Phoole's voiceover work appears in 'Turning It Up For the Sunshine' by massive disco/soul supergroup @thetribeofgood, and she's also enjoyed the honor of collaborating with the great @skeewiff on a holiday novelty parody, 'Santa Bacon.' 

Phoole's father is Chicago bebop jazz bass legend Dan Shapera; her brother Joseph is an avant-garde jazz drummer to whom Art Blakey himself once said, "When I die, you gon' be King." While Phoole herself abandoned ten years of classical piano training at the age of 15 (her sole regret in an exciting life), she's always fiercely loved all music and is drawn to genre-defiance in tastemaking. Her first entertainment career was in walkaround street performance.
