Nick Lapien has been sharpening his music sound a number of monikers; Metropolis, Nepal and his own name.  On labels like Other Heights and Sequencias the Dutch man has moulded smoke stained Chicago, textured Techno and drifting Ambient. For Photic Fields this homegrown talent brings together two of his nom de plums under the banner of Marchland. 

Basslines bulge, pressing against dampened claps for “Ballad of a Man.” Banks of harmony drift off an analogue ocean, arcs of string dawning into a rich radiance. Submerged notes bend and blur with “Bobby Konders”, streams of synth flowing past columns of carved percussion. Rolling chords see Lapien don his Metropolis mask for“Black Motor Boogie.” Acid vultures circle with beady eyed intent, claws  writhe and flex amidst a flurry of beat and pad. The shimmering keys of “The Gatekeeper” takes the listener throw a winding pass. Curving 303 contortions fold and reform under pressurised bursts of tom, cymbal and snare to end this journey into Marchland.

Lobster Theremin present their first label album, a double LP from Chicago resident and elusive young talent, Chicago Jim. Having cut his teeth on a life growing up in the Windy City, Jim's reverent ability to spin synthopian tales of old-school Chicago and the birth of house music are a genuine reflection of a talent rarely seen at the helm of records in the post-00's. 

Label head Jimmy Asquith discovered the album online, originally released through Chicago tape imprint Pretty All Right, and after streaming one track said tape was swiftly purchased and absorbed. 

Upon first listen these are the sounds culled from lost DATs, forgotten tapes, lost to the wind in a faraway city where music is the answer. The explorative nature of the Chicago Jim LP covers sounds an themes rarely touched on by modern dance music records, as much as they pertain to be a reflection of 80's Chicago house. The moods are ones from another time and place, referencing Larry Heard's Alien and the pioneers ability to enrapture and engage. 

Across eleven tracks we are treated to Chicago house, early Acid, Detroit techno, ambient, synth, slow juke and proto-booty works without the filthy lyrics, but still steeped in American attitude. 

The tracks are untitled, only identified by their position on their respective vinyl, and are better for it. Another test of anonymity that defies a sales pitch, instead allowing the LP to be considered as a whole.

This fall, Trevino makes a rare appearance off the golf course with a four-track EP on his brand-new label, Birdie. Up to this point, the Manchester-based producer's work has been scattered across imprints manned by industry heavyweights like Ben Klock's 'Klockworks' and Martyn's '3024', but now he's made a home for his own relentless output. It was a natural step for a stalwart who never stops creating, and manning his own platform has allowed him to explore the depths of his sound with no holds barred.
The EP opens with "To The Core", a driving house track with melancholic synths and metallic percussion. "Warmer" is more of a sunrise jam; it inspires a sense of wonder with gliding synths, yo-yoing melodies, and cute bleep-bloops. The b-side features the more ominous track "Playtime", which develops a menacing edge with a gritty bassline, and "Mesmerize," another psychedelic cut with wavering synths and glittering instrumentation.

Perseus Traxx, aka Nigel Rogers, is returning to Photic Fields with a four track outing. This young Briton has time and time again shown his ability to sculpt soulful soundscapes using the building blocks laid down by Chicago House. Harmony of Elements is further proof of this. From the outset lush key strokes are laid down, warmth and texture brushed with subtle beats. Percussion patterns are used to scaffold achingly delicate bars. Autumnal tones swirl amongst warm winds and colder currents. Darker moments are present, nightskies bruise under weighty bars. M>O>S man ASOK is on remix duty, blotting “Grey Skies” with his ink-stained sounds; eclipsed moods balanced with honeyed notes.
 
Harmony of Elements sees Nigel Rogers full range of ability on display. There’s a revived and renewed complexity to this layered EP. A landscape of emotion is lovingly created, edges are smoothed and richness flows. Undoubtedly some of the most developed, heartfelt and involving sounds to come from Perseus Traxx to date.

Rolando Simmons lives in a desolate coastal town of Sweden and divides his time between a creaky old townhouse and two rural homes. The dreamlike environment of meadows, grasslands, hills and lakes, combined with his fascination for Drexciya, AFX and Isao Tomita inspired Rolando to make this odd fairy tale music. 

Similar to his heroes, Rolando uses a bunch of hardware: Alisa 1387, MS-20, MC-4, SQ-1, Blofeld, Machinedrum, TX-7, 606, Poly-800, Filterbank 2, VSR-3 reverb which all ends up in Renoise. Other inspirations include Sibylle Baier, Jandek, Vashti Bunyan and Debussy.

It’s been two years since Tagwell Woods first appeared on W.T.  Records. His rich and refreshingly unique techno style caught the ears of the faithful. Finally, finally, the Londoner is back on vinyl with six pieces of his original brand of machine music. And the wait is worth it. Tracks like “Christmas” and “Training” pulsate with feeling. Others like “Rabbit Society” and “Chance” build on that emotion. Crisp percussion and heartening strings are weaved as lush moments and textures unfurl. The 12” is incredibly deep and flooded with sentiment. But don’t be mistaken into thinking Tagwell Woods deals in weight, instead it’s his lightness of touch that sings. “Tied Waves” is fragile and delicate, whispering before blossoming into being. The finale, the beautifully uplifting “Velocity”, has that same deftness. Mecca defies classification. Electronica. Techno. House. Acid. All are lovingly melted together to produce an absorbing and soulful second release, a release which is testament to the talent of this fledgling musician.

Though, his ambient recordings are less known till date. Under the alias Cinematic 74 we'll present a collection of ambient works, produced by Brooks between 2003-2015. 9 spacious and tranquil cuts, connected to harmonies and moments of bliss. Only a few nuggets of information exist on The Valley and The Mountain. They/he/she hail(s) from Detroit. Previous work has featured on labels like WeMe and Shipwrec. That´s it. And the mysterious producer has been quiet of late, but the return is well worth the wait. Gentle Waters Keep Moving is the first full length outing from TVTM and their/his/her most absorbing work to date. Sharpened edges are rounded, 303 squawk softened and rhythms mellowed as ten tracks of melting music is served. The Detroit denizen calls on the sounds of the hometown. Techno is at the album´s heart but frosted touches of electro are present, warming acid twangs, house grooves with all being dipped in a refreshing undercurrent of electronica. A collection of tracks that draws you in, deeper and deeper, with every listen.

The ferocity of the 303 has been sheathed, percussion pared down with lush chords and deep warmth being the focus. House is the foundation from which CCO builds.
