I imagine this as a basic battle theme for a tactical JRPG-type-thing. You're stalking through the sewers under the city with your motley crew of adventurers, in search of a Gelatinous Cube that's been devouring plumbers left and right, when you round a corner and run straight into a group of diabolists and their pet snake monster, looking for a sacrifice for their evil god! You may be able to beat them, but can you do so while preserving enough strength to complete your mission?
