Geordie Haley is a composer, improviser, educator and guitarist. Contributing to the creative music scenes of Fredericton NB, Toronto ONT, and now Halifax NS, Geordie has been presenting songs, rhythm based compositions and improvised music for over 25 years. 
Since returning to the Maritimes Geordie has been a featured artist in concert and festival programs by creative music presenters Upstream Music, Suddenly Listen, Canadian Music Center, The Motion Ensemble, Jazz East, Scotia Festival, Shattering the Silence Festival, and the Harvest Jazz Festival.

THRENODIES, a work for 4 musicians and 3 dancers based on Haley’s original compositions in collaboration with dancer/choreographer Susanne Chui was featured a during the 2012 Halifax Jazz Festival.

As an educator Geordie continues his practice at the NSCC Waterfront Campus Music Arts Department, teaching private lessons and instructing ensembles.

Constantly seeking new means of expression and eager to create, the flutist-improviser-composer Cléo Palacio-Quintin (1971) takes part in many premieres as well as improvisational multidisciplinary performances, and composes instrumental and electroacoustic music for various ensembles and media works. Since 1999, she extended these explorations into the development of the hyper-flutes. Interfaced to a computer and software by means of electronic sensors, these enhanced flutes enables her to compose novel interactive electroacoustic soundscapes and videos. Over the years her compositions have been performed in The Netherlands, Norway, Denmark, France, Italy, Belgium, Sweden, Switzerland, the U.K., Canada and the U.S., either by herself or various ensembles. Besides composing chamber music with electronics, she performs regularly as a soloist and improviser. She is the first women to own a Doctorate in electro-acoustic composition from the Université de Montréal (2012). Active researcher at the Center for Interdisciplinary Research in Music Media and Technology (CIRMMT) at McGill University, she received the Director's Interdisciplinary Excellence Prize 2008 in recognition of her having created an innovative bridge between scientific/technological and artistic domains. She was the resident composer at the Chapelle historique du Bon-Pasteur in Montreal, from september 2009 to 2011. The Conseil québécois de la musique gave her the Prix Opus - Composer of the year for the artistic season 2010-2011.

The 21st Century Voice is a book focused on contemporary vocal techniques based within an acoustic and anatomical framework. The intention is to propose new directions and methods of vocal exploration and is not a treatise of vocal writing of the twentieth century. Specifically, this book is focused on experimental methods of sound production using systematic methods to gather more information about the limits of voice. 
The structure of the book is based upon current understanding of voice production, and organized according to the following: I. AIRFLOW [1: Airflow]; II. SOURCE [2: Vocal Folds; 3: Laryngeal Semi-Periodic Source; 4: Registral]; III. RESONANCE/ARTICULATION [5: Filtering; 6: Turbulent To Absolute Airflow Modification]; IV. HEIGHTENED POTENTIALS [7: Combinatorial, Multiphonic Principles; 8: Pushed to an Extreme; 9: Multidimensional Voice]. What distinguishes this second edition are the following: A) new and improved images; B) more on nonlinearity and asymmetry; C) more on training the extra-normal voice; D) new chapter on the multidimensional voice; E) different & more audio/score samples, including audio/video samples at Scarecrow Press and YouTube; F) remove chapter 9 on interface & chapter 10 on context
This book is focused on composers and performers interested in vocal exploration. However, due to the comprehensive treatment of extra-complex vocal production within a scientific framework, the book has a broad appeal that extends beyond musical composition and performance to include voice science, acoustics, linguistics, computer modeling and more.

Christina Volpini is a composer whose music has been described as “focused intently on the subtle sounds that fall between the cracks” (Ludwig Van Toronto) and “very nuanced, rustling and whispering” (Neomemoire). Informed by the ephemerality and spontaneity of natural sonic environments, her work explores gradual unfolding through time, found objects, sonic spatialization, instrumental textures and liminal spaces. Her music develops through collaborative creative processes with pieces crafted for specific spaces and performers. 

Christina has been commissioned by Esprit Orchestra, Array Ensemble, Continuum Contemporary Music, Caution Tape Music Collective, and Duo AIRS with performances in Toronto, Montréal, Ottawa, Vancouver, Edmonton, New York and throughout the U.S. east coast. She has collaborated with artists including Jumblies Theatre, Echéa Quartet, guitarist Rob MacDonald and Ensemble Bakarlari, among others. Her work has been featured by organizations including the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity, Soundstreams and The Music Gallery, and supported by the Canada Council for the Arts, Ontario Arts Council, and Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council.
