Guess what? It's Dilla's bday again and I'm so excited to share with you my 4th edition of what turns out to be an annual tradition. As always, paying a tribute to Dilla is easy and fun but also challenging at the same time, because his music is so inspiring and my musings wake up with the first note being played, but the challenge lies exactly in the same spot: what can I possibly add to such rounded and soulful music? the conclusion is usually similar every single time; just play WITH Dilla, rather than use him. So every year just before this special day, I'm sitting in my room and he is there, showing me this cool drum sound he just sampled or this warm beat, and he's asking me: Lamotta, would you mind recording a verse over that? and so I did. Happy Birthday!

Some audio dope in the form of a mix of some rarities out of the J Dilla Beat Tape Collection (Beat tapes 2-4). This does not include cuts from the first tape of the set simply because I already had a copy of that long before and I know it has been circulating for some time now.
