My favorite set of the year. I played the sunrise set for Nowadays Nonstop Halloween party! I wanted to play a set that felt like a hug after a long night of partying. Kourtney, aka Rose Kourts, is a Brooklyn-based DJ, party-starter, and dance floor fixture hailing from North Carolina. She’s made a name for herself with her dynamic sets and the infectious energy she brings to her performances. She plays from the heart, encouraging listeners and dancers to go on a journey of movement, connection, and emotional release through her signature blend of crunchy, funky, groovy, hype, and hypnotic selections. 

She can regularly be found setting off Brooklyn’s dance floors - performing alongside luminaries in house and techno, throwing events, collaborating with fellow local artists, and putting out label and radio mixes. She is a co-founder and resident of Sweet Kicks, a community-focused DIY party with sounds straddling house and rave, and of In Bloom, which centers around the joy of blooming forth on a pulsing dance floor. Additionally, she is the mastermind behind a NOW compilation-inspired party of feel-good music that brings unpretentious, nostalgic favorites to the club.

A. I've been a part of the scene for about 10 years, DJing for the last 8.

Q. Tell us about this mix.
A. This mix is a snapshot of my life and mood as of late. As I move into a new season, I'm learning a lot about my own capacity for resilience and fortitude, and this mix captures that nicely. It's introspective, emotional, deep with moments of darkness and hope, and is rounded out with a bit of celebratory fun. It explores the more ambient side of house and techno, with a nice blend of textures and percussion throughout. It's imperfect, uneven, lofi, but honest. I see it as a nice accompaniment to lounging, working, pondering, tripping, feeling or simply just existing.
