On Sunday 24 September, I had 25 minutes to showcase a lifetime of music I love – in the silence of headphones. But there was nothing silent about this experience. 

The screams and shouts of support and joy from the crowd at the end were beyond belief. 

To the point that it was genuinely hurting my ears – and at a time when 'hearing health' is suddenly your Number 1 Occupational Health and Safety hazard. 

But I endured the pain because I asked for this! 🥰🥰🥰 And blocking your ears would be like rejecting the best compliment you've ever received in your life. 🙏🎶❤️🙏🎶❤️🙏🎶❤️

Being a part of YOUR SHOT has been a wonderful journey in overcoming the fear to be seen, the fear to be heard, and the fear of losing your hearing – for pursuing an art that makes your heart and soul sing, so loudly. 📣❤️‍🔥💥📣❤️‍🔥💥📣❤️‍🔥💥

'Be careful what you wish for' is not a phrase to be taken lightly. This was hands down the most bittersweet 20 seconds of my life. Admittedly, I did cover my ears for a few of those seconds, but I hope you didn't notice 😉.

Ironically, Silence by Delerium, possibly my all-time favourite tune (if I were forced to choose only one) is not featured in this mix. I’ve heard it enough times to last many lifetimes! 😅 

Stay tuned though, as I've recently discovered some delectable Silence remixes by friends/talented DJs/producers, and I may include these in a re-recording of this set (if time was not of the essence).

Achilles tendinopathy treatment - what is the latest research, and how can it help your treatment? What is the best way to treat Achilles tendinopathy (AT)? 

Over the years our treatment of tendinopathy has evolved significantly. You may remember rubbing tendons with ultrasound or our thumbs in years gone past, and stretching the painful area or muscle-tendon complex. If you did, you may also remember the number of people that didn't really improve or develop the load tolerance to return to activity with this approach, supported by research demonstrating the lack of effectiveness of this approach. 

We progressed to the golden era of loading, initially using eccentric training. Additional research emerged on the benefits of heavy slow resistance in tendinopathy treatment, closely followed by the importance of load management demonstrated in research on soft tissue injuries. In 2015 and 2016 Rio et al. released promising preliminary research utilising isometric holds in patellar tendinopathy patients, and we have extrapolated and used isometric holds with many different types of tendinopathy.

Dr Seth O'Neill completed a MSc in Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy, followed by a PhD focused on Achilles tendon disorders. Seth is a lecturer in Physiotherapy at the Universities of Leicester and Coventry, and has a Physio private practice in Nottingham, UK.
