I wasn't a huge fan of the HeartGold/SoulSilver version of this, as it spoiled the opening. The original in Gold & Silver fooled you into thinking it was going to play the same old Viridian Forest theme with the loud opening, but then manages to take you in a completely different direction, into a more funky, laid back tune. The HeartGold/SoulSilver version started laid back and chill with a piano quietly playing the opening chords, already giving away the fact that this was a completely different tune.  I wanted to make this one as ambiguous as the original version… but with an update, of course.

As mentioned prior, I arranged both Viridian Forest themes as a set, trying to maintain certain similarities, that being the horn section. I felt that having the horns play both openings would make them sound similar enough, that way one "feels" thrown off when the solo sax takes over.

A ROOM OF ONE'S OWN? (LIVE EVENT AUDIO)

It seems like redoing this song is a bit of an obligation, ahaha!
I went for a much more conservative approach for this song, merely going for a more higher-quality take of the original; if not keep the original outright (as with Ocarina of Time 3D), I feel that's what Kondo would have done for a remake.
With that said, though, I did go for a bit of live instrumentation, keeping in line with realism trends shown with the Mario games.

Something I worked on in the hopes for getting it played by my school's concert band. Sadly complications came up in school life and I couldn't afford the time to finish the sheets for this, but for now I have this.

Badly mixed and poor articulation because I just slapped the midi data onto HyperCanvas.

About time I showed this off. I've been hoarding this for a while (as evident from the Preview Suite), but I decided to thank you guys with this. I don't really like dabbling in non-Kondo Mario music too often, but I've made an exception for this.

The original was a pretty driving song with lots of jazzy organs and brass going on, so I decided to take that basic concept and put a bit of a twist onto it. It shouldn't sound too redundant, in that sense, though it'd hopefully bring out vibes of the original.

(What's this? The drums are too weak? I wonder why...)

Yes, I know it's technically late. I know. I still needed to celebrate my favorite composer's birthday in some way.

A remix I had around for a while; I decided this was the perfect time to upload this.

With this, I intended to make a nearly 100% accurate recreation of the original song that gives it a more modern, high-quality coat of fresh paint - I think I succeeded. I hope you do, too!

Chip meets chip meets guitar meets synth. I wanted to stick a little close to the style I've established with the previous level theme, while also extending the song and mixing various styles of instrumentation to give the feeling of time melting into itself.

(The eventual soundtrack release will have two full loops of the song.)
