Picidae is a stripped-down duo from Norway that deliver streams of hushed tones. The duo consists of Sigrun Tara Øverland on vocal, lyre, autoharp, omnichord and guitars and Eirik Dørsdal on trumpet, electronics, kalimba and backing vocals.  

Picidae’s character is found in the unique sound combinations: the ancient instrument lyre and other string instruments combined with a trumpet that is picked apart and reassembled in ways unimaginable. The duo works within a musical style that pulls towards medieval hymns and renaissance music, but the music is still poppy and jazzy and uses both electronics and improvisation.

Picidae has released the EP, "yesmakemedream" which was produced by Even Ormestad and Audun Borrman (Jaga Jazzist, Thom Hell, Marit Larsen, Jonas Alaska). They have played concerts in Norway, Sweden and Italy in particular places such as mausoleums, old factories and bunkers, to galleries, churches and clubs. The duo has also been on three Japan tours. They plan to release their first album in 2015.

Eirik and Tara also are also active in several other bands, including Kaada, Augur Ensemble, Jacon and Anne Marie Almedal.
