Animix Thirty Eight comes from @steve-duncan, a talented digger and co-founder of the iconic @patternsofperception music collective. Born in Australia, but having spent his recent years in Berlin, Steve now resides in Helskini.

I am lucky to have met Steve through my travels, and also having been gifted an opportunity to play at one of the @patternsofperception parties in Berlin. What they have managed to achieve as a collective is beyond impressive. As a DJ, Steve's talent is equally notable - his creative and smooth mixing style, and classy selection of deep, crunchy & vibrant sounds. This mix here follows suit fittingly, meeting the perfect balance between sophistication and groove.

#98 calls for a special appearance by my dear friend, and very talented dj/ creator @voxsupreme. Lounes and I met on the beach at waking life festival in 2019 and have been friends ever since, now having done two ambient b2bs, at ADE in Amsterdam in 2019, and then coming full circle, we met at waking life 2022 for our second b2b. 

I consider him a master of all things ambient and electronica.. constanty impressed by the music he shares and plays. Clearly though, his dj'ing doesn't stop at ambient, with a crazy diversity of styles .. from dubstep and dnb to electro, breaks, techno and everything in between. 

Lounes is the man behind the ethereal dreamworld that is @traumgarten - a special collective focused on downtempo/experimental music and events. I'm always so impressed by the love, thought and creativity that goes into his events, alongside his partner Marinka who often contributes too.

From throwing notorious raves in rented mansions and other unconventional spaces and bringing together international favorites and local heroes, to playing alongside artists like Ayesha, Object Blue, and Azu Tiwaline, grymnk is an energetic force. "Recently, my parents moved from Amsterdam to a quiet village away from the city and therefore also away from where I grew up. Before, my childhood always felt close and tangible, just visiting my parents, walking through the old neighbourhood and it's like you've never left. 

It sometimes feels crazy that that time will never come back but through music I often bring this feeling back a little. So this has become the theme of my mix, a kind of ode to that time, with music I got to know through my parents. All this in a 'modern' jacket to suit me as Yb3L"

"Unlike the other daytime curators, Lena Willikens chose to open La Sucrière's impressive main hall on Friday, playing alongside her usual back-to-back partner Vladimir Ivkovic. The two looked relaxed behind the decks, swaying, smoking and sometimes smiling. The crowd, less dense than during the other headliners due to the early start, were also in a good mood, using the extra space to feel out each beat of the slower selections. Much of the two hours felt like existing in the lagging moment of a sci-fi movie, just before a spaceship launches into warp speed (in a good way, I promise)."

Seattle-based CCL (@ccl-tuf) is a DJ, promoter and curator. They’re a founding member of TUF, a local collective focused on community-building and creating visibility for underrepresented artists in dance music. Known for bold musical choices, CCL blends a caleidoscope of rhythms, usually playing a mixture of deep, immersive breaks, electro, techno and bass music. Miss Jay's (@jockey_jay) evocative DJ style has a unique narrative quality, flowing seamlessly between aesthetics, moods and textures. Currently based in Amsterdam, her residency at Groningen's OOST club has functioned as the springboard for her seamless sonic explorations through genres, colours, tones and temperatures.

With notable recent performances at festivals including Dekmantel Selectors and Into the Woods, plus numerous performances at cult clubs including De School, Tresor, Radion, and beyond, Miss Jay is a star on the rise.

Patterns of Perception 55 is a testament to her emotionally nuanced, storytelling style – a deep, sophisticated immersion into bass, breakbeat, and drum and bass music.

Proudly presenting TPF–007 from upsammy, the singular Dutch artist with ears trained on the unknown.  

When we asked rising (and rising) star Peach to curate a night with us on November 1st 2019, she reached out to long-time friend and fellow Torontonian Club Fitness, and De School resident, upsammy. The latter, whose refined taste and genre-elasticity has been quietly garnering her a cult following in recent years, steps up to the plate from TPF–007, a live recording from her three hour warm up set that night. 

The result is one of the most imaginative and masterful early door sets we've had the pleasure to host at Pickle. Departing from the high-octane / tempo sounds upsammy often champions, expect a winding journey through dub, experimental bass, oddball techno and plenty more besides.

For the newest Animix i'm very happy to host an exciting, bass-heavy mix by one of my favourite DJs at the moment, Amsterdam local @jasminhoek

She is in many ways a perfect representation of the bright, bubbly and diverse style that is common amongst so many of my favourite Dutch DJs and producers, whilst at the same time she is certainly paving her own refreshing and unique style. 

Residing in Amsterdam & studying gender studies, Jasmin hosts her own radio show "petting dogs" on Stranded FM.  She frequently featured on De School lineups before its' closure this year, and i'm excited to see where she goes with her DJ'ing in the post-covid music world.
