Spesh is an accomplished club DJ with more than 30 years behind the decks, and is co-owner and head of A&R for Loöq Records. He has also co-produced over 80 releases with JD Moyer as Jondi & Spesh, and with Jerry Bonham and Jondi as JSJ, with releases appearing on over a dozen groundbreaking labels including Bedrock, Global Underground, Renaissance, and Loöq. Spesh is also the co-founder and resident DJ of Qoöl, which in its 15 year run became one of San Francisco's most storied underground electronic music events. 

Spesh, né Stephen Kay, began his career in dance music as a DJ in the late 1980's. This was a time before dance music had congealed into distinct genres; when a five-hour set for a DJ was the norm, not the exception. With an ear for choosing compelling music and an unparalleled ability to weave those tracks into euphoric journeys of sound, Spesh quickly rose in the San Francisco scene, eventually landing himself a high-profile residency at the legendary party, Release.

Shortly after the 1999 release of Jondi & Spesh's hugely popular progressive house anthem "We Are Connected", Spesh developed into an international talent, performing his deep yet enthralling DJ sets across Europe and North America. Back in his hometown of San Francisco, Spesh quietly simmered away playing in virtually every venue the city has to offer, receiving the highest accolades from his peers and from local and international press including Mixmag, DJ Mag, San Francisco Magazine, SF Weekly, and more. 

Spesh can be counted on to bring something new and unexpected to every gig. His refusal to take the obvious route makes his many fans more passionate than usual. They expect more than fantastic dance music flawlessly mixed; they expect to be transported to another plane. Over 30 years of spinning music has given Spesh time to develop his talents to a nearly unconscious level. As Spesh himself says, "I'm doing my job when everybody in the room, including myself, has completely lost track of time."

These days Spesh limits his DJ bookings to less that half a dozen per year to allow more time for family and other passions projects. Each set is special and for him a shared experience of joy and gratitude.

I’m a professional Sound Designer, Audio Editor, Mix Engineer, Film Composer and Music Producer with over 20 years full time experience in all areas of the sound and music industry. I’m adept at working to tight deadlines on multiple projects with meticulous attention to detail, both independently and with collaborators. Having worked on a diverse range of musical genres, I’m extremely proficient at adapting my writing and production style to suit a specific brief with genuine authenticity.

Brief Summary
My composing and music production skills have featured on advertising commercials for major brands, public information films, corporate videos and the score for an award winning short film, for which I also created the sound design and final audio mix. As well as commissioned work, many of my own original compositions have featured in dramas and documentaries broadcast by Sky, ITV and the BBC.

I started out in dance music where I have produced and remixed numerous club classics, including The Thrillseekers “Synesthesia” (51st State), Y Traxx "Mystery Land" (Kevin & Perry Go Large) and countless other releases including 6 that entered the UK top 40, a further 4 in the top 75 and many more that have featured on compilations including Global Underground, Ministry Of Sound Annual, Euphoria and Kitsune Maison.

Since taking to the turntables in the early nineties Belfast based dj ‘Steve Boyd’ has played thousands of gigs, promoted hundreds of events and now owns one of Ireland’s most successful clubs ‘Thompsons Garage’. 

Steve’s universal approach to dance music has witnessed his involvement in many of its incarnations and genres. His involvement in the early progressive house scene led him to headline gigs at London’s Leisure Lounge, Imperial Gardens, Gardening Club and Velvet Rooms. Gigs across the UK and Ireland followed at Edinburgh’s Honeycomb, Dublin’s POD, Kitchen and Manchester’s Tangled. During this time Steve held down a residency at the seminal ‘Code One’ events at Thompsons. Steve was also a key player at hundreds of ‘All Nighters’ across Ireland. Throughout this period Steve played alongside Sasha, Paul Oakenfold, Nick Warren, Steve Lawler, Lee Burridge, Gordon Kaye, Slam, Anthony Pappa and countless others. 

Since those halcyon days Steve has gone on to become one of Europe’s longest running resident djs with an 18 year residency at Thompsons Garage. Covering each and every style of House music’s ever-changing genres Steve has played alongside some of the best in the business. Tony Humphries, Roger Sanchez, Joey Negro, Francois K, Danny Krivit, Angel Moraes, Grant Nelson, DJ Gregory, Graeme Park, Deadmau5, Mark Knight, CJ Mackintosh, Steffi, Prosumer, Ashley Beedle and many more have joined Steve during his spell behind the Thompsons turntables.

A truly versatile dj, Steve has held his own laying down Jacking House with Derrick Carter, tough Tech House with Matthias Tanzmann, soulful sounds with Miguel Migs and progressive soundscapes with Sasha. 

In the UK alone Steve has fired up the floor at London’s Ministry of Sound, Pacha, Turnmills, The Key and Area. Elsewhere in the UK Steve has supplied the soundtrack at Cardiff’s L’America, Derby’s Blend, Manchester’s Slammin Sessions, Brighton’s Everyday People, Edinburgh’s Stereotype and Birmingham’s Crunch to name a few. Steve's versatile style has also seen him spin at various events outside of the UK where hes has laid down blissed out beats at Ibiza’s legendary Cafe Mambo and Dubai’s 360 in addition to delivering pumping House sets at Pacha in Egypt, Cocoon in Germany, Dreamers in Spain and Curacao in the Caribbean. In Ibiza Steve has spun dj sets at Space, Es Paradis, Eden and Pukka Ups Sunset boat parties.  In addition to this Steve has completed numerous tours of Russia and headlined gigs across India, China, Arabia & Europe.
