On the the a-side he ups the intensity once again with pure squealing machine funk in the form of ‘Modular Framework’ & ‘Displacer’.

The flip contains 2 menacing remixes of ‘Displacer’ by Sleeparchive, an inspiration to both Ctrls & Token. We never hoped for a match this perfect.

The tracks on this EP are rich and darkly atmospheric, pulsating loudly through a smog filled dance floor. A subversive spin on dance music, the blank-stared, pin-point-focused electronics and layers of noise betray no/wave and post punk influences, dragging together industrial experimentation and pitch-black techno. The B-side of this humorously titled release is hands down one of my favourite tracks of all time, and definitely my favourite Levon Vincent creation. One of the few records that I can honestly say is well worth the high marketplace price, though I hope my copy gives me years of play! There's really no fitting description for this shifting chugger; it's a totally melodic and dubby slice of techno with a nice, subtle tinge of house-y-ness. It keeps going and going, with every element in its perfect place. Lots of reverb and warped sounds that build a series of layered loops from some ultimately quite simple components. For me that's the mark of perfection: a fugue-like cycle that plays on a perfect kick, bass drum, etc. And did I mention there are some VERY fat synth chords? Oh, and I just listened to it again and must add that there are some sweet pitched up lasers. I've always had a soft spot for the sound of lasers! Mmmmmm, Woman Is The Devil indeed.

For those who consider them regulars in the electronic music club scene in London or have lived here at any point in the last eight years, there is a remarkably high chance you've attended a night put on by, or in someway associated with, Casper Clark. In the last year alone he has managed to sort special eight hour back-to-backs from Morphosis and Ben UFO as well bringing a host of names such as Laurel Halo, Demdike Stare and Objekt to play at his night BleeD. His incredibly forward-thinking approach to music has led him to curate lineups for festivals such as Field Day, Beacons and Donau and he's become a go-to DJ for many other likeminded promoters and DJs. Earlier this year he added producer to his list of talents, doubling up BleeD as a label and releasing his debut Charlatan EP under Volte-Face, whilst also doing official remixes for Daniel Avery. Ahead of two big shows at Berghain and Fabric in the next month, we decided to catch up with Volte-Face for a little chat about London life and all things BleeD, as well getting him to mix our 123rd Truancy Volume. Describing the mix as a representation of what he likes to play in the clubs at the minute, the mix glides seamlessly through a barrage of techno tracks from Pysk, Bjarki and Abdulla Rashim to name a very few.

SHDW & Obscure Shape - Augen Der Nacht

Rolling and Thatching is the second track featured in Joe Farr's RPM EP. 

On January 29th Joe Farr will make his Bloc debut with a three-track EP, titled 'RPM'.

Farr has a diverse catalogue, with three well-received releases on Turbo as well as records with DSNT, Leisure System and Power Vacuum. Few producers can claim to have remixed Tiga and been remixed by Truss.

Though Farr has an extensive history with Bloc, this will be his first outing on the label, a release that incorporates sounds that both Bloc and Joe are famed for.
The first track, 'RPM' features prominently in the Bloc festival trailer and is the soundtrack to the 2016 event. Hissing high hats and an atmospheric baseline quickly develop into an explosive anthem designed to get feet moving. 'Rolling and Thrashing' conveys an immediate punch of 90’s acid, followed by techno heavy 'Workout Three' with crunching beats and an unremitting delivery worthy of the Berghain dance floor.

Ontal - PI02.1

The Emergence LP is just a small part of a larger audio-visual project, with many pieces of music that feature in the live shows but not on the album. Panned is a track that came from experiments with live surround sound shows where I use 6 or more channels to create spatial forms for each piece of music. I wanted to bring this experience to a stereo format, so I created a track with every element hard panned, with some extreme sounds to enforce the effect. 

The track is also built around some experiments with looping audio through analogue pedals - distortion, ring mod and delay. I had a lot of fun pushing the limits and making them squeal in a heavy sort of way, which lent itself to this intense form of track. (I also used some of the results in Trust, in a more subtle form).

That intensity was something which seemed a better fit for Joe than the normal album tracks, and I love his work and was keen to get him involved with the project, so we jumped in with a remix of Panned.

Max Cooper has a vested interest in the intersection of scientific inquiry and forward-thinking electronic music. On his latest album Emergence, for instance, Cooper sought to capture the idea of complex forms of life arising from simple physical laws, told through the dreamy guise of an organic IDM record.

Emergence has now received its official remix package, courtesy of some of the most innovative minds in electronic music like Rival Consoles, Christian Löffler, John Tejada and more. Dancing Astronaut has the privilege of premiering Patrice Bäumel's rendition of "Organa," which continues the Dutchman's seemingly infallible streak of big remixes.

Cititrax is thrilled to present a split EP by two massive talents, Borusiade and The Sixteen Steps. Borusiade, originally from Bucharest, Romania began as a DJ in the early 2000s and then started producing music in 2005. With a background in classical music, she combined her love of raw electronics, obscure themes and melodic lines to create her own signature sound. She has released on the Cómeme label as well as Corresepondent. Infatuation and Confutation are dark, moody and intense tracks that catch you upon first listen. The flip side of the Promises and Infatuation EP features The Sixteen Steps, the brainchild of George Lanham who cut his musical teeth DJing and running events in the south of England. We have been listening to many of his tracks endlessly for a while now. They’ve also been a highlight of Veronica Vasicka‘s DJ sets as of late. Signals From The South and Promises On The Run are both immaculately produced, hypnotic, dance floor killers. They are sparse ebm meets smoky warehouse techno, and offer a wonderful contrast to Borusiade’s layered emotive tracks that reminisce of an East Village club in the 1980s. Themes of infatuation, appearances, and anonymity appear throughout this EP from the music itself right through to the cover art. Limited edition vinyl pressing of 999 copies, first 500 copies are pressed on black inside milky clear vinyl (each record is one of a kind), housed in a matte printed sleeve. Slow Hyper-controlled Motion is a homage to early New York spiritual house. I have been obsessed with records
from late 80’s / early 90’s that have this vibe of forest, for example Instant House, Jungle Wonz, or Risqué III.
There’s also a strong inspiration from Butoh that runs throughout everything I have done with IDO and with this
record. I get inspired by dancers and certain dance moves, and particularly with Slow Hyper-controlled Motion
I was concerned with this Butoh concept of accepting the fact that you are slow and being able to use the space
within this slow-motion to do a lot. The grooves are all directly inspired by Butoh moves.
In creating this record I took field recordings in the forests in Japan. The concept of Slow Hyper-controlled Motion
was to recreate this 90’s spiritual house vibe but in a more experimental way. At this time they used a lot of
bird samples and more tribal sounding drum machines like 626 and 727. I also included these elements on this
record and also got inspired by the sound of rain, leaves and wind and used these as a constant texture for all
tracks, and to create a lot of wetness using space reverbs or echos and watery sub bass to portray the feeling of
the forest in a less literal way. Also, I tried to go deeper into the concept by going through a spiritual and
meditative process to explore the mysterious aspects of the inspiration.
