112 kbps preview. This is a cover of the Walter Murphy classic by the super talented Haitian - Canadian pianist Henri-Pierre Noël, a long lost gem from 1979 unearthed by the Wah Wah 45's label and released for the first time last year. Luckily the multitrack tapes had survived so I had the honor to go first on these. First I did a track called 'Diskette' (preview here, it will be out in a couple of months : https://soundcloud.com/thereflex/henri-pierre-no-l-diskette-o) and then this superb version of 'A Fifth Of Beethoven' where Henri-Pierre excels in re-arranging the famous strings and clavinet licks into a masterful piano performance. My version uses all of the original sounds except for the kick drum that I've replaced (+ fx swooshes here and there). This album is very special to me, not only because it is my first full-length project, but because it represents a change in my approach to music, it marks the beggining of a new era for me as a producer, because for the first time I'm making music that represents who I am. This album features a personal style that I came up with after experimenting during the year that this album took to make, being in college takes a lot of time from producing, that mixes Jazz-Hop and Chill-Hop with electronic, soulfull and funk vibes. The name "Lights & Rain" means to me a really inspiring and chilling view. When I started to get into this kind of music, the inspiration not only came from the samples that I used, but also, I found from watching different cities on Earth, most specifically, a rainy city on the middle of the night. I relate the way that not only I make my music, but the way it sounds, with this aesthetic that inspires me so much. I hope you enjoy this album as much as I enjoyed making it.

“My Silver Unicycle” began as the first track Blankets and I made together in 2009. It was originally planned to be an instrumental track since I was tired of recording vocals and wanted to make an instrumental set that combined neopsychedic rock with hip hop. “Love is Called to All,” which I released as an open collaboration track and David Lee Louthan recently added vocals to, was the second instrumental track Blankets and I recorded for the set. I decided to add vocals to “My Silver Unicycle” approximately 3 years ago, probably after completing “Let’s Do It (All Over Again)” with Weighty Tree. I never released the track because I decided I wanted to focus on releasing collaborative tracks with people active in the  SoundCloud community. Eventually I couldn’t access the original stems to “My Silver Unicycle” due to old DAW issues and this track just sat there in limbo. I decided to release this track now because I can’t seem to complete any new tracks. Lol. So there ya go. 

The photo is taken from a party I had at my old house. I used to invite all my musician and artists friends over and we would play live music, paint and draw on the wall, read poetry, and cook together. It was fun.  

Huge blessing to Blankets for all the music we made together, a lot of which still has never been released on any platform. And big thanks to Russell Sinfield at the Chaos Cookhouse for mixing and mastering this track on the quick style with only an instrumental stem and 3 of my vocal stems. It was originally supposed to be lo-fi any ways.

Anyone familiar with Mop Mop will already know that their refined style has already lend them a unique place somewhere between the worlds of jazz, funk, latin and the Italian Postmodern style allowed the band to achieve the international film business as part of Woody Allen's 'To Rome With Love' movie soundtrack. 
But with this latest LP 'Isle Of Magic', Mop Mop digs even deeper to bring us one of their most engaging and organic records yet. Mop Mop's fourth studio album has come together over the course of a couple of years where producer Andrea Benini has been searching for new directions with the band.
Collaborations in the album include Funk legend Fred Wesley, Trinidad-born poet/singer Anthony Joseph and Finnish-Egyptian vocalist Sara Sayed. Over fifteen musicians were involved during the production of the album including Andrea Benini’s co-arranger Alex Trebo on piano, Pasquale Mirra on vibraphone and
marimba, Guglielmo Pagnozzi on clarinette and flute, Johannes Schleiermacher (Bajka, Radio Citizen, Woima Collective) on baritone sax, Lorenzo Ternelli and Salvatore Lauriola on bass and Danilo Mineo on percussions - just to name a few.
'Isle Of Magic' contains 13 tracks of pure Voodoo Jazz, Caribbean flavours, Afro-
Funk, Exotic rhythms and Soul music. The album has been recorded between
Germany and Italy with the use of vintage analog equipment to achieve a sound
with all the “warm” qualities of vintage analog tape recordings; sessions have been recorded during the period March/August 2011. Isle Of Magic is an imaginary land populated by musicians who spend their time fishing, cooking, playing and practicing Voodoo rites at night. The whole album represents the soundtrack of this imaginary life.
