2002, made for a Dylan Thomas program. One of my favorites because of the extremely subtle background filled with trams, bells, 70s radio sounds and the voice of Thomas, stretched till it broke.

kakogan is the second of a set of seven stones or boulders, pieces of rock. A way to break with my old way of composing and make something that's not music, but I don't know yet what else.

"calm sea" is a study for a bigger project about the sea and possibly about the ship that sank recently close to the Greek coast with 200 refugees in it's hold, women and children (the men were sleeping on deck). 
And about the unshakable calm sea on top of them.
The photo shows me looking at this part of the sea.

all's well, live at Orgelpark

I studied composition with a.o. Louis Andriessen and Jan Boerman.
I look upon myself as a storyteller, as a member of an ancient tribe of shy and wild people who through stories sometimes succeed in creating another way to experience time.
My work comprises life as i live it: a piece of wood full of splinters, parts of beauty and the fracturing or missing of it: lots of waiting, silences.  
This explains my fascination with scratched movies,  squinting people, 
a broken voice,  old grammophone-records, growing old in general.
It’s all about looking for a novel beauty in the corrosion of an old (sound)world.

With some artists i built a special relationship, people who are devoted to quality and adventure; visual artist Petra van der Schoot, pianist Reinier van Houdt, percussionist Arnold Marinissen, soprano Jennifer van der Hart, the Ives ensemble and the ensemble MAE.
