Experimental Folk collective Folkatron Sessions return with a mesmerising live arrangement of the classic Irish folk song Flower of Magherally. The new cut sees ambient electronica meet folk orthodoxy in a gorgeous, meditative rendition.

About Folkatron Sessions

Folkatron Sessions are a collective of 8 folk, jazz and electronic musicians from England, Ireland and France who bonded over a love of ‘genre-bending’ [Folk Radio UK] folk music. Their ‘unique soundscape’ [Songlines Mag] refracts trad folk through electronic, jazz, ambient, sound art and prog rock lenses.

They met in 2017 at an Upcycled Sounds experimental folk residency, spending an intense week arranging, performing and recording their debut EP Mais C’est Quoi Maman. Enthusiastic reviews from Folk Radio, Eliza Carthy and Ian Stephenson spurred them on to create their debut album Skiver in this same residency format.

In just 6 days they wrote and recorded a ‘pioneering’ [Songlines Mag] album. Its 2020 release on Upcycled Sounds Records saw Folkatron Sessions featured in Songlines Magazine, on BBC Radio 3, BBC Radio 2, 6 Music and Folk Radio UK.

Et voilà, on continue à parler de James Horner et dans cet épisode 2, Rafik et Olivier en terminent avec les années 80 et on avance bien dans les années 90. Après son documentaire Ouvrir la voix, la réalisatrice Amandine Gay nous propose Une histoire à soi, un voyage dans le temps pour découvrir cinq portraits singuliers d’enfants adopté.es. De la Corée du Sud au Rwanda, elle donne la parole aux adopté·es, aujourd’hui adultes, afin qu’iels puissent se réapproprier la narration. Comment les enfants vivent-ils cette expérience ? Comment briser ce silence qui pèse sur l’adoption ? Clémentine Gallot et Emeline Amétis l’ont vu et nous en parle dans cet épisode court.

The Mistral, is a strong wind that commonly occurs in southern France, blowing down from the north along the lower Rhône River valley toward the Mediterranean Sea. As the wind reaches the Rhône delta, gusts can often hit speeds of 130 km (about 80 miles) per hour.

This recording was taken from the bedroom window of an old "Mas" (farmhouse) just outside Barbentane (Bouches-du-Rhône) with the mics pointing directly at a Plane tree (platane)at least 250 years old.
