Music to make people dance with big smiles on their faces. With a penchant for strong groovy base and melodies with "a nice bit of tension", Arkadyan and Demayä set about work on their collaborative E.P. Esperanza: “In an early mix of the title track, we used a sample of Manu Chao’s voice, saying ‘esperanza, esperanza’, but a chance encounter in Dubai with mezzo soprano vocalist Yana Mann changed the course of the E.P. Inspired by the trumpet melody and the beat, Yana Mann came up with a vocal line and the result was a one-shot success. One enlightening taxi ride with Jean Claude Ades later and things started falling into place. The result is a miniature collection of “octopus rhythms”, with organic percussion and electronic beats jostling for attention with a plethora of live instruments and on-the-road pocket-mic field recordings.

'Alkebulan' by Ant LaRock & Roland Clark gets the remix treatment from David Mayer. David Mayer’s remix takes inspiration from the African vocal and injects it into the rhythm section, with off-beat snare hits driving the track forward as shakers stutter away. A huge, soaring breakdown is decked out with synth beauty that spills over into the drop but is wisely restrained from anything too overblown. Well-positioned FX whirrs and spins around your head while the lead riff pans around in similarly dizzying fashion.
Todd Terry protégé Ant LaRock has provided some gems for Exploited previously in the form of ‘Grown Ups’ and ‘When’, and this latest effort with house legend Roland Clark on vocals could be his strongest effort to date.
