Breakbeat Paradise Recordings are on the themed tip again, this time getting their reggae vibes on. First came the “Swing that Funk” EP, and now comes “Breakin the Riddim”!! An EP of pure funky riddim feelings, BBP have hauled both veterans and new in to create their take on how they feel breaks and reggae should be put together…

DJ Maars kicks the EP off with his own unique style of riddim and this man is a master of the reggae/hip Hop mash, and with this, there’s no disappointment. Basschimp follows up with a banger of a tune called Under Mi Sensi, which has received the head-nod treatment, with big drums and bass to tear the dancefloor up. BBP’s resident funkster Leygo, brings the heavy vibes with his badboy of a track. Tight beats, accompanied by deep rolling bass and funky horns bring this already sweet tune to life.

No breaks compilation is complete without a bit of wobble, and who else better to provide it, than Cockney Nutjob. The man has skills, creating simple, yet great tunes that are almost impossible not to enjoy!! Finally up-and-comer Fredy High brings the happy vibes. A real reggae riddim, with nice breaks, and a sweet vocal, make this tune a secret of the record box.

The flavours of swing-garage in ‘In My Blood’ and swing-funk in ‘Let's Have Some Fun!’ make for two dirty DJ gems, guaranteed to get any crowd moving like puppets on strings! ‘Bong Hits From A Preacher Man’ is a creative and glitching collage of various classic soul, hip-hop, dub (and a certain smokeable something!) styles and samples! To finish, 'Rat Race' shows off the best of Isabel Drake's smooth and soulful voice, accompanied by some deep and organic instrumentation and bass roars!  I-DJ February 2010  Not many artists can boast knocking Snoop Doggy Dogg off the top of the charts, but that's just one of the noteworthy accomplishments of one Steve Jeffery, aka Pimpsoul. He's also been called "the forward thinking sound of Nufunk" by iDJ magazine and has travelled the world as an ambassador for everything funky and bass-orientated. 

Dogg's humbling took place last year when Pimpsoul's blazing collaboration with the mighty Mooqee, Keep Pounding, hit No 1 on the Beatport hip-hop chart, a hugely important indicator of sales success, which led them to win the Beatport music award for hiphop track of the year 2012. Other achievements include racking up more than 50,000 YouTube hits for his re-edit of Duck Sauce's ubiquitous Barbra Streisand, put together alongside DJP. Pimpsoul tracks have found their way into the record boxes of acts as diverse as DJ Yoda and Krafty Kuts. The likes of A-Skillz, Beat Vandals, Mooqee, Fort Knox Five and Kiss FM's Ali B are also big fans - Pimpsoul has even been called in to co-host Ali's show.

For a producer with such a booming sound (one of only three resident producers on leading UK funk label Bombstrikes) Steve is also a firing DJ who has taken his turntable skills to venues across the globe to entertain audiences in Canada, where he has headlined the infamous Shambhala Music Festival. He has also played al over Europe during the last couple of years. Fully armed with a crate full of his own re-edits and mash ups, Pimpsoul grabs the party by its horns and stamps his name on its ass cheeks like a cowpoke with a bad temper. This flat cap sporting English gent is a genuine club DJ with the power to drop the bass and watch the bodies fly around the room. No wonder even poor Snoop had to accept second spot.
