On the occasion of the Radio Thalflug weekend, I played a two-hour djset with tracks from the ECM universe only. 

The music comes from Meredith Monk, Azimuth, Rainer Brüninghaus, Eberhard Weber, John Surman, Pat Metheny, Steve Tibbetts, Tamia & Pierre Favre, Codona, Nana Vasconcelos, Steve Eliovson, Veljo Tormis, Ketil Bjornstad, Don Cherry.

The artwork is taken from Maja Weber's cover design for Eberhard Weber's album "The Following Morning" 💚

ECM was founded by Manfred Eicher in Munich in 1969 and soon developed into a melting pot of interesting musical fusions. Jazz, folk, classical music, various African, Asian, South American and European sound idioms, minimalism, ambient, avant-garde and electronic music came together in the ECM cosmos. Artists such as Don Cherry, Steve Reich, Meredith Monk, the Art Ensemble of Chicago, Jon Hassell, Eberhard Weber, Carla Bley, Keith Jarrett and Arvo Pärtt have found a home there.

I don't have the skills to pull it off, but in my head...I can see, ASTONISHINGLY CLEARLY, what the video for today's Interbay track would look like.  A single astronaut docks their spaceship to another...and wanders around the empty halls of what is proving to be a derelict ship, and occasionally looks out into the emptiness of space.  The thumbnail image suggests the last shot--which is this lonely astronaut looks balefully at the planet below and the camera pulls back to show the scale of how lonely space travel might be...  

That doesn't HAVE to be the interpretation that YOU get out of "You're Not Around"--certainly, the vocals weren't originally created with anything close to that in mind.  But there are some sound effects that COULD suggest such a narrative (the sound of docking, the hum and throb of engines and generators...etc...)  

This might be my best post-punk/darkwave sort of track yet, at least as part of this Interbay music project.  I get a Siouxsie & The Banshees...but with Kate Bush as the lead singer...vibe from this.  I think I got a few really good sounds--the vaguely Asian sounding guitar chords, the way you can feel the wooden resonance of the bass guitar.

Home Comforts - 10 - Desert

help! it is high quality mattress, but way too soft.  i am sinking into grooves. it is a nice platform bed so i don't think plywood will help.

i've been researching latex toppers and i am confused about their numbering system and how thick i should try, or if there is anything else i can do...

anyone have similar experiences or ideas?

memory foam mattress is too soft
