Y Bülbül is back on the controls accompanied by Yumurta, a percussionist from Istanbul. This adventurous mixtape celebrates the release of their debut album. 

"Not One, Not Two” is based on a one-way transmission of improvised drum recordings from an industrial estate in Maslak to another one in Tottenham, where Y Bülbül laid down fragmented layers of bass, synths, guitars and field recordings over Yumurta’s singular drum takes. The result is a free-form deep listening album for fans of dub, ambient and kosmische music.

Pingipung Podcast 149: Noema - Palmer Eldritch's Dream (The Moons of Jupiter)

Not only are we celebrating the 20th anniversary of the label. This is the 150th episode of our podcast series! That's 12,5 years of mixes from the left side of the dancefloor. For our jubilee we welcome Michael Mayer from Cologne. He is not only an amazing DJ, but also our distribution boss at Kompakt. Here's what he says about his mix:

"One fine day there was a package on my desk, inside a 7" single with good mood music on yellow vinyl, wrapped in a hand painted good mood cover. It was Pingipung 01, Peter Presto's "Es war Sommer" and it was love at first sight. That this flash in the pan would turn into a 20-year (business) relationship is one of the most beautiful stories you can experience in the music business. Pingipung is a beacon of DIY culture, fed by deep devotion to impossible music. I am very happy to be able to present this musical bouquet for their anniversary."

Pingipung Podcast 150: Michael Mayer - Music For Twens

Jan Lubahn aka 'Mad Lubi' grew up in the far north and moved to Berlin a few years ago out of love for music. There he works for a big record store, regularly spinning at various venues, most often and preferably at Arkaoda. In the past he has hosted several event series, organized and played festival stages, collaborated with great labels like Philophon and in his spare time he is constantly on the lookout for black gold. For almost a year now, he and his partner have been producing a monthly radio show on Cashmere Radio: 'The Endless Tape Machine'.

Jan about his mix:
"This mix called 'Nature Boy' meanders through my music collection, from the great love jazz, to ethno and exotic vibes to Latin America, to Jamaica to Southeast Asia to folk. The name of the mix has been floating around in my head for a while, firstly because it fits the podcast photo and secondly because it's one of my favorite songs for a long time. In this mix, nature is often sung about, discussed. You can hear an instrumental version of this song in the podcast."

“I was 2190 km away from where the smoke came up, but fortunately
everything went well and she put out the fire in time. Last night I brought
my stuff to the laundry for the first time again.

When I think about it, it became a rather dark story of temporary
soundtracks about being lost alone on an infinitely long street hoping for
the repairman to come and fix everything. It took me a while to bring all
this together and make a sense out of it, especially because of the chicken
sounds. Sometimes it is not that easy to catch the feeling of a certain
time while living in it. It seems like the waves of moments have increased
their frequency lately and somehow things that were just recently fixed
burned down again. The guy from my street told me that he would sell me a
washing machine that does not burn down my apartment. So that at least is
some kind of progress.“

Pingipung Podcast 157: Houschyar - My washing machine caught fire that day

I have never shared this with anyone but like most of my sets, this mix mostly follows my classic storytelling structure: start slow, build it up, bring it down, and end with something that will grab your attention so you know it’s time to go home. Instead of building up the energy, I went for intensity with a little break in the middle and a heavy dose of what my brain thinks is that special Pingipung sauce. In this vain, I wanted to share pretty music that’s easy to listen to and go on an exploration with the listener and challenge you a bit by also travelling along darker and more obscure paths. 

Also, it’s an absolute honour to have made this so make yourself comfortable, close your eyes and enjoy the sounds that flow from your speakers.

The Berlin resident runs the label Kame House, designs graphics, produces and plays leftfield electronic music. His output presents an intersection of these activities – self-released, self-designed and self-produced.

Philipp on his mix: "I got the idea for the mix when I received a letter from the Magdeburg police because I was speeding in a 100kmh zone. So in order to redeem myself, I strictly adhered to the speed limit in this mix, while traveling through a very diverse musical landscape. I hope that this will make the fine notice obsolete. All gas – no brakes!"

⁣Frinda di Lanco & Hendrik Stein from Berlin are pushing airwaves together since 2018. A DJ duo with a deep love for obscure vinyl records and a wild and vibrant mixture ranging from AOR, cosmic, italo, library and disco that never fails to surprise us with the unexpected. Together the couple is spreading joy on dance floors all over Europe. With 'Avec Plaisir' the two founded their own label imprint and re-released an enchanting collection of Austrian Cosmic tracks from the ’90s. We hope you enjoy this wonderful selection as much as we do.


Frinda & Hendrik on their mix : “After listening to the recording from lovely RIAA Bar in September, we decided to go for exactly the same vibe – since that night was special in many ways. It only happened because our gig at Pudel got cancelled due to a double-booking but we had our train tickets already. So instead of bringing a selection of Italian Disco and dance music to Hamburg, we focussed on those records which we usually play to close friends in a home-listening context and that have a certain place in our hearts. At this night we also met Andrea who was enjoying our selection a lot and asked us if we’d like to record this mix you’re just about to listen.“ 💫

Now this one is special for us: Strobocop aka Thorsten Lütz is the head honcho of the Karaoke Kalk label. And the records Thorsten put out at the turn of the century in Cologne were a big influence for us in starting our own label Pingipung. We are thinking about artists such as Wunder / Wechsel Garland, März, Takagi Masakatsu, Fumble / Kandis, Donna Regina or Hausmeister.

"A raag is a set of rules, it is a framework inside which the artist makes a musical journey. What fascinates me when listening to a great 'hindustani music' artist are her choices at every phrase. The journey she chooses to spontaneously make and take herself and us down a path never explored before. 
In the second raag of this mix, Kishori Amonkar sings the raag Bhoop, a pentatonic scale - sa re ga pa da sa (do re mi so la do). With these five notes she creates a profound experience.

Pingipung Podcast 163: MD Pallavi - Khayal: a thought stretched in time

A collector by nature, Isabel began experimenting what DJing could be like in 2019, focusing in collecting hidden and forgotten sounds recorded in cassettes over time. It’s in this field that she asserts herself as Son Objet, where her approach to Djing goes from the selection of bizarre and cosmic sonorities from the diy cassette culture movement, combining them with less conventional current compositions. Her main resources are cuts and loops that are infinitely juxtaposed throughout the set to transition and build the narrative thread that wanders between introspection and dance. Along this electronic route, paths focused on psychedelia are outlined, also highlighting spoken words and sound collage.

"I wanted it groovie and emotional. Tracks that would either feel like nostalgia or happiness to me. I think now we decide."
