Hi! I am Amelia Holt. I am from a small town in Mexico called Rio Bravo, Tamaulipas. I have been living in NY for six years and currently reside in Greenpoint. 

A fun fact about me is I love watching erotic thrillers films.

Favorite music collective atm?

I recently visited Brussels and I am really loving the Club De Tour parties organized by Louis Vogue and Soumaya. The space is wide; it feels like an abandoned parking garage. The lineup was beautifully mixed with a few familiar names but mostly new, so I enjoyed the feel and discovery aspect of the party. 

Describe the vibe of your ideal party? Space? Smell? Drinks? Anything you can think of ;)

Space: So, I have been dreaming about partying in a public library (“biblio-tech”). The space should be active during the day as a regular library and then after closing would transform into an experimental /visual/ dance space. Anyone who wants to enter biblio-tech can by using their public library card ;) 

Drinks: Anything alcoholic infused with herbs and teas to make it “healthier”  - plus the kombucha from Magik City.

Smell: It will smell like culture and history in the making ;-P

Advice to beginning djs?

Do the happy hours! Both Bossa Nova Civic Club and Jupiter Disco have great happy hours and it's a good place to practice getting your hands on equipment. 
Also, go into a rabbit hole of music discovery on YouTube. I find so much music just by clicking the next recommended track.

Describe the best dj/live set you have seen this year? 

2020 has barely begun but the DJ set that blew me away was Miss Jay. She knows how to read a crowd and mix dance with hip hop selections.

Alien D - he just released a beautiful EP Sunday Painting, go check it out!

What is your prediction on the next music genre re-vamp 2020?

TRIP HOP please!

Describe the first moment where you had an epiphany about your love for music?

This has happened a few times, but perhaps the most inspiring time was at the Lost Soul x Sublimate boat party back in 2018. It was such an amazing location, a secret maze to get on the abandoned boat. The lineup was beautiful and the vibe, PLUS the sound of submerged vivid techno. I hope someone does something like that again. 

DJ dream of yours?

I want to build a DJ/ artist network that facilitates bookings and information between cities; a flow for people who don’t have agents and don’t know how to get booked.

What would you like to see in the future for the dance community?

More funds and support from the established institutions that allow djs/ promoters to throw residencies & one off parties. It is not easy to sustain a musical lifestyle in New York, so I am hoping there is a positive change in that.

Where do you currently reside? just outside Belfast very recently

How is everything going with you right now?

How much time you got? ;P I'm going through change and constant flux, learning every day and staying present amongst the uncertainty.

Who currently inspires your music-wise?

My Climax babes Lucy X (@lucyecstasy) and Abnama(@abnama) inspire me all the time, sharing music with them stimulates me a lot and makes me feel really connected to sound and why I love it and they connect me to myself. Then when we bring it all together, fusion & magic! We are constantly morphing in sound too.  I first started mixing on Lucy X’s decks and she inspired me to keep exploring them. Her ear, craft, and authenticity blow me away every time. I am inspired by Tommie True, my friend and collaborator (Satoena & spit service) Tommie shares powerful messages through voice and sound and I can’t wait to play live with her. stay tuned for more spit service!!

I really love what Berkley and Jonathan are doing, I love couple duos.

I am inspired and excited by what's coming out of  Ruin, a necessary and empowering femme voice in these times.

Noff Weezy (@noffweezy) is a mad phreak for sound and I am really inspired by her drive and obsession with it.

Sophie Sweetland (@-tiffany)is a big inspo to me, has helped me trust myself a lot, and always inspired by what she creates. She can go everywhere and isn’t defined by one thing. she gives many people the opportunity to explore through sound .. shares her resources and is a massive inpso to everyone around her. Girl daddy of the dance community I think.

my oozey friend Special Guest DJ (@specialguest-dj), the records he puts out and creates are filled with such depth and experimentation. he is mad for lifting up friends and providing opportunity too.

What other activities have you dipped into with a break from djing?

I like to read a lot. I spend time thinking about histories, mythologies.. and try to express my adoration of all of these through music. 

I’ve taken a bit of a career change and I'm now a care worker checking in and looking after the most vulnerable in the communities over here which feels very grounding and keeps me grateful and appreciative of what I have around me. it’s challenging work but I love to challenge myself and see what comes out of this in the future.

Why do you think it's important to share music?

It's a way to connect, some sounds trigger something in us, and when that little thing makes someone else feel the same way it's cool. we can express how we’re feeling through sharing music. And inspire each other, challenge each other with the discovery of different sounds. and keep pushing it together, that's why I love working with lucy x and abnama through climax, they challenge me and we like to push each other with our differences and similarities in sound too..and to keep rocking not stopping with that.. you share yourself by sharing music. sometimes no communication needed when u share music together.

Signals vol. 47 Ali Berger [ Trackland | Ghostly ]

Our next Signals comes from Ali Berger. Originally from central New Jersey, spending formative time in Boston  and honing his craft while living in Detroit,  current resident and contributor to the ever growing community in Pittsburg.  As a DJ, producer he explores the spaces between distorted drum machine improvisations, synth-heavy techno trips, and warm mechanized funk. 

With an ever growing catalog and a new imprint Trackland.  2020 may have been a hiatus year for most,  Ali's made the best of it with a plenty of gems added to his catalog. Which he is uploading to the Trackland Bandcamp every 2-3 weeks.
