Making his Dekmantel debut with a flourish of symphonic, transcendental techno, Sepehr takes us into a fictional metaphysical zone he calls the Genesis Domain.

Over the past 10 years NYC-based Sepehr Alimagham’s versatile club music practice has taken in techno, D&B, electro, EBM and acid on a suite of scene-leading labels. This new EP builds on the pseudo-spirituality he explored on recent LP Fall From Grace with an exploration of an imagined space “where your reality can be reinvented at any given moment.”

On the A side, the title track sets the pace with a throbbing, sparkling-yet-spooky trip that allows a touch of trance into the mix, while ‘Delicate Senses’ explores snappier broken beat rhythms and edgy atmospherics with a distinctly moody outlook.

The mystical electro shades of ‘Twisted Solstice’ and ‘Planet Lonely’s melancholic 4/4 pastures strike a note between contemplative introspection and anthemic main stage energy. ‘Queen Of Demons’ is the consummate EP closer, leaning on brooding low end and snaking, intricate beats with a healthy dose of shimmering beauty up top.

Consistent with his versatile approach since day one, Sepehr proves any blend of tempos and rhythms can be folded into his vivid, evocative sound world — the results will always draw you in close until his vision becomes yours.

Step Ball Chain’s unconventional prototype band trickpony is the 11th release on the ever evolving imprint. An assortment of sensual cyber jams collaged together by the trio over timezones, birthed in Perth, Australia by Mike Midnight and Roza Terenzi; old friends joined by Helsinki’s visionary songstress Maria Korkeila. A trinity of alchemy blossomed into an audio rendition of exquisite corpse, layers of each entity glistening through amongst a united cosmos; trip hop atmospherics and downtempo drippings. 

The five track EP reveals a metamorphosis of nostalgia, a foot in the ever present and daydreams of future. A subconscious deep dive into lustful pop, guided by spine tingling vocal fantasies; textural hallucination, harmonic odes to the golden era underground and a flirtation with drum and bass, tribal percussive freakouts and dream tinged lyrics of desire. 

Pillow talk is a timeless exhibit of esoteric treasures, a portal to a private world of modern enchantment that reveals itself in new ways each listen, music for lovers created by a supergroup of innovators to be digested, shared and cherished.

‘WAR1209’ finds Ukrainian artist shjva inducing trance states across an album equal parts tripped-out and dubby. Spanning brooding lysergic visions and locked-in dance floor hypnosis, expect drowsily impressionistic soundscapes and darkly cinematic gear across the 9-track duration. Total sonic immersion for the oddballs and the freaks.

Terraforming uncharted alien terrain, tracks like ‘X-Side’ and ‘Upper Limit’ descend into sprawling, widescreen exploration. Fathomless landscapes serving as vessels for deep introspection. ‘Enigmatic’, on the other hand, opts for detail and precision-tooled dynamics while retaining that same wide-eyed sense of wonder. Where ‘Dragonfly’ offers fractal fuel for ceremony and ritual, ‘Cloudhopping’ and ‘Psy-Fi Alien Dub’ wade knee-deep through some dub techno murk. Saving the direct and tunnelling for last, 'Banshee' and 'Chrysalis' are like two sides of the same proggy coin; one ominous, the other more optimistic and utopian.

Quickly emerging Australian gem Zara (@zaraolsen) brings her signature warm, emotive & sparkling sounds to Animalia with a special five track EP and collaborative animation with Amsterdam based artist Tharim Cornelisse.   The EP combines the deepest intricacies of IDM & modern tempo-explorations, all with a cosy sense of groove & rhythm, resulting in an exciting yet tranquil balance of sounds. Zara’s atmospheric, world building music is an unambiguous reflection of not only her upbringing in lush Australian surrounds, but also Animalia’s kaleidoscopic world, and Zara’s own sense of adventure and worldliness.

A testament to catharsis of body and mind, an homage to sentiment and intrigue.

‘Hyper:lost’ purveys two interlinked but distinct sides of an artist whose reputation has spanned a long and ever maturing path of sonic development. Where Raär’s signature intricacy manifests in the grittier ‘hyper’ half of ‘hyper:lost’, Whylie counters with the haunted but sentimental spatiality of the other - the ‘lost’.

For this is like a search through the dialectic of the machine; energetic fluxes and frenetic textural modulations of the hyperreal encounter swirls of melancholy and lush human washes of its seeker. These are the contradictions of a determinedly uncertain pursuit; of a head charge into the void.

Twin parts diagnosis and remedy of a present insanity. Heads down and knees up for the end.

Berlin-based French DJ Laura BCR has been steadily making her mark in the contemporary electronic music scene in recent times, with firm feet in the scene via her various endeavours such as her now defunct, but highly revered and remembered, Bass Cadet Records shop in Berlin where she takes her name from. 

Recent times have seen BCR snap up a residency at Het Magazijn club in The Hague, Netherlands as well as further bookings across the globe at hotspots in the Far East  as well as appearances at many other leading nightclubs such as Tresor, ://about blank, Concrete, Moog and more. Amongst this Laura’s fledgling On Board Music label, born out of her agency of the same name, has already gained recognition from many influential figures and platforms, yet another telling sign of her knowledge and ability to curate and connect the sounds that surround her.

Hi Seanzy S here :) I grew up on the west coast, next to the ocean,  spent a few formative years in Ukraine where I discovered dance music. Currently in Brooklyn but always feel like a child of the cosmos. I spend a lot of time on discogs battling sharks. I still believe in true love.

If you could place a dj booth anywhere in the world… where would it be & what would you play? 

Can it be out of this world? If so, on the moon or some far away planet, I'd let the needle drop and the aliens would reveal themselves like 'yo we gave you this music!' and i'd be like 'oh I knew it the whole time' and they'd be like 'hehe yeea' and we'd get down and groove so hard in space celebrating the wonders of the universe and love and unity.

DJs: Borys, Karine, Bambu from Kyiv.  Akanbi, Primo Pitino, X-Coast in the US, ha. Progressive Future is a really sick label from Kyiv. Cxema is showcasing some of the scene’s brightest talent. 

What would you like to see in the future for the dance community? 

Less social media and more living in the moment on the dance floor. Less of the things around dance music and more actual dance music. More drug education and testing. More inclusivity of all people. More hugging strangers. Less sexualizing people on the dance floor, more consent. Better dance floor etiquette; saying excuse me and thank you. A lot of sound systems leave more to be desired, but I'm optimistic about this shifting.
