Number forty-five presented by a very good pal of mine and talented musician @djchrisellis. Chris' warm,  gentle and friendly aura as a person can really be felt in his musical leanings. The DJ and producer has contributed to series’ like Public Possession, Hope St Radio, Friendly Potential, Primer and Head Rush, spanning between house, electronic, Balearic, dub and IDM.  

Chris' productions are perfectly balanced --  groovy electronic dance music, but still maintaining a feeling of warmth and authenticity.  Beyond covid-lockdowns you can catch him play his playful live set, and he's also got a four track EP coming out on @publicpossession early next year.

For our 50th cassette release, we're very happy to welcome in Shakali (aka Simo Hakalisto) born in Finland, though now residing in the Czech Republic.

"Aurinkopari plays a lot with polarities as it seeks to find something celestial in the mundane. The brightest sound of the album was captured in the darkest night of the year. Sine waves, scaled according to old wartime engineers, ended up sounding like a magic flute. A hydrophone detected other-worldly sounds of a drowning compost and a ceremonial Javanese gendèr was recorded in a bunker… While the processes of recording the album were often playfully esoteric, the music itself is warmly heartfelt." - Shakali

Encompassing global and local music traditions and pre-Midi times, this album feels very organic, playful and warmly connected to a natural, higher consciousness state of being....We couldn't ask for a better way to celebrate our 50th cassette release.

Introduce yourself? Pronouns? Where do you currently reside? 1 fun fact about yourself?

H: Hi! My name is Harrison (he/him), and I currently reside in Naarm/Melbourne. 
B: I’m Billy (he/him). We actually met on a dance floor In Naarm, and now live together!

Who/what currently inspires you music-wise that has nothing to do with music?

H: Soccer weirdly inspires me a lot music-wise. It’s a bit hard to explain, but watching endless videos of soccer managers/players definitely makes me DJ/produce in a fun and quirky way, and also makes me not take it too seriously. 

If you had to go back in time music wise what era would it be and why?

B: Early 2000s, i feel like half my library of music is from this period. If only 3-5y/o me knew what I was living through :( 

What is your favorite party/collective where you reside and why?

H: Techworld. A monthly party in Naarm, whilst only starting this year, every one of their parties has been some of the best memories I have ever made on a dance floor. To me, the vibe and music played at techworld embodies what a party should be, fun!

What was your best moment on the dance floor?

B: Was very surreal hearing Born Slippy at 6am on an Edinburgh dance floor a day after watching trainspotting for the first time. It was actually one of my first experiences going out to a dance event, I remember thinking I would love to do this all the time.


What would you like to see in the future for the dance community? 

H&B: More inclusivity and diversity in dance communities. We’d particularly like to see venues and promoters do more to make everyone feel welcome and safe at dance events. Everyone should be able to have as much fun as possible without having their nights ruined by others. We’ve had many instances where people’s shitty behaviour on a dance floor has ruined the experience of going out for many of our friends
