RDS plumbs the depths of analogue texture on his Kalahari debut proper. Following a guest appearance on Eversines’ ‘Plooi’ EP, the Amsterdam artist returns to explore the more expansive integers of his hi-tech sound across four deftly crafted tracks.It's exactly the sort of enveloping, sophisticated material we’ve come to expect from a De Lichting member.

Straight deep space manoeuvres on the opener. Setting billowing widescreen pads against solid, tight groove, ‘2312’ feels as if it’s escaping the eye of some turbulent solar event. Then, landing with a sensitivity absent from the harsh climes of its predecessor, ‘BBsuite’ leaps from translunar to tenderness with dappled keys and lithe breakbeat intricacy. Saying that, there’s still something undeniably explorative and sc-fi in its mood, almost reminiscent of Orbital or Future Sound of London.

There’s more refined deepness on the flip, starting with ‘Silky’s supple, slinky flex. Forlorn, exquisitely widescreen ambient techno, it treads between the warm optimism of early Detroit modes and a certain somber melancholia. And finally, ‘Autechrein’ finds RDS smudging his palette on a dusty, downtempo overhaul of the after-hours formula.

Trodding his own path of introspective, nu-age-infused ambient scapes and trip-hop-laced downtempo divagations, Gi Gi eases us in a distinctively soothing headspace. A self-driven, immersive audio bubble engineering a polychromatic mix of organic field-recording, exotic dub shades, lushly textured envelopes and smooth loungey jazz accents.

“Pyxis Glint” shows off an ambiguously feverish ASMR-like temper with its tightly woven web of chimey Andean melody and straight out Rephlex-fashioned escapism.

The second release on Lapse records welcomes UK Tech House mainstay Len Lewis, who’s extensive catalogue of club music stretches across the last few decades, along with newly appraised London based DJ and producer Mariiin. The split EP supports a four track selection of old and new head down club music touching different moods.

The B side spans a more contemporary 4x4 influenced thread of this style that circles closer to the outer rims of techno and acid. The Italian born producer joins the label with the “Snake Is Changing It’s Skin” and “Impasse” which continue fittingly to carve their signature sound, a style consistent in their early releases on the likes of BPR and EYA Records and across their DJ sets as Pleasure Club resident.

innerinnerlife’s ‘ILYSM’ is about perfect moments lived and yet to come. Casting back a gaze, indulging the trembling embrace of nostalgia, the border between revisiting the past and remaining there. It’s about teenage epiphanies, the first music-induced skip of a heartbeat; breathing, whispering, feeling. The dazzle of a dream only realised in retrospect.

It’s intimate and glittery. The featherlite driftaways of ‘this reminds me of U’ and ‘if u want’ shimmer like morning light through rain-flecked windows, while Mikey Enwright’s diaristic meditations on ‘airborne’ swirl and sigh over an instrumental that sparkles as it soars. ‘what rhymes with getting by’ and ‘if life was soft’ seem wrapped in soft-spun gauze, delicate like memory. This album grapples with what’s happened and holds its head up high to what’s next. It heals and it pulls apart. It knows life is imperfect but contains perfection.

Josephine Moriko is in Sweden. innerinnerlife is in Poland. ‘Emociones / Prior’ is in the world, and out on New York City’s OST.

The dark balearia of ‘Emociones’ marries innerinnerlife’s warm, slowly unfurling synth pads to a yearning, autotuned Moriko vocal, swirling and swaying in the sultry riptide of the instrumental. It’s drama in slow motion, a heart-stopping moment caught and crystallised in memory, played and replayed again and again.

‘Prior’ walks a dimly lit route, white linen on a nighttime beach, inner turmoil by a romantic backdrop. Moriko’s coldly intoned vocals carry secrets and intrigue, whispering about longing and addiction over a flickering phantomscape. It haunts and hits in equal measure.

It’s a gripping statement piece from two artists with rare, idiosyncratic points of view and frames of reference. Two songs forged under candlelight and sculpted from afterglow. Two songs that hold a shadow world of style and seduction, passion and poison, black roses and green-eyed envy. Two songs made to transport. Two songs for you.
