Vinyl wizard & sweetest being @lolo-lolo-lolo-96 for number #153. Laurent is half of Berlin based dj duo @digabuna, his dj partner also co-running  the amazing @coppiberlin studio with him.

Coppi is a weekly community session based in a warehouse location in the East of Berlin. The project strives to create spaces and strengthen the community exchange of non-commercial underground music culture.

Born in Luxembourg with Taiwanese roots, and now based in Berlin, phpho has an incredibly diverse range of musical knowledge & taste, and classy technical skills behind the turntables. This mix is a beautiful smooth rolling blend of his musical influences.

Animix One Hundred & Fifty Three: Lolo

The third offering in our mix series is a live recording of Priori and Cousin's dj set at Sustain Release 2024. Recorded on the last morning between 6am and 1pm on what was meant to be an ambient stage, it featured everything a 3 day festival closing set should. Eclectic picks, strange and emotional sounds, dubious transitions and a few feigned endings. Massive thanks to all the dancers, the Sustain staff (Aurora, Ash and everybody else who put their blood, sweat and tears into this), the music makers, the birds, the stars.

A rare live recording from the multitalented musician, Alicia's set captures a dynamic and thoughtful soul at play, mapping cleverly between moments of shimmering suspension and blanketing bassweight, accumulating pressure with deliberate, veteran intensity. Solid ground, in the spirit of the captured evening, from which to leap into the night beyond.

Saharan artist @azu-tiwaline is inspired by the desire to explore her origins in the Tunisian desert. She did this to magnificent effect on Draw Me A Silence, a debut album released earlier in 2020 that unified traditional Amazigh music with contemporary dub cultures and hypnotic techno sounds. Defined by an ever-present polyrhythmic chiaroscuro - the contrast between light and dark - it's a mysterious album that gets you in a trance and encourages inward reflection. 

The same sense of intoxicating repetition and minimalism runs through this week's podcast. It is an often multi layered listen that has stringy, drawn out rhythms. What sounds like ancient ethic percussion and instrumentation mingles loosely with moody synth drones. Naturalistic field recordings - water, birds, vocal chants - enrich the mix next to trippy studio effects and make for something utterly beguiling. Somehow old yet new, surreal but earthy, these disparate worlds rarely collide in such harmonious ways.
