For the next Far Blue concept we have the first solo mix of one of the co-founders of Far Blue, abh:

'The foundation of this mix was put together during a 5 week trip traveling down Australia’s east coast, during which I started reading more of Rebecca Solnit’s ‘A field guide to getting lost’. I wrote down a couple of quotes about the concept of desire that she discusses, and one that stuck to me the most was the following:

"We treat desire as a problem to be solved, address what desire is for and focus on that something and how to acquire it rather than on the nature and the sensation of desire. Though often it is the distance between us and the object of desire that fills the space in between with the blue of longing. I wonder sometimes whether with a slight adjustment of perspective it could be cherished as a sensation on its own terms, since it is as inherent to the human condition as blue is to distance? If you can look across the distance without wanting to close it up, if you can own your longing in the same way that you can own the beauty of that blue that can never be possessed?”

This mix was put together with this this thought in mind. Like all my other mixes that I have recorded at home until now, this mix has no intention to be for the dance floor, but specifically for time spent alone. Which is when desire is most prominent.'

- 'But in this world we actually live in, distance ceases to be distance and to be blue when we arrive in it. The far becomes the near, and they are not the same place.'

A Far Blue concept by abh - 'Desire'

It is a big honour to feature the very talented @syberkid for our ninth Herbarium Episode. With her organic and trippy sound, she makes the perfect match for our series.
The artist chose one of the oldest ferns for her mix, Pteridium Aquilinum. There are fossil records for this plant which are over 55 million years old.
It’s native in the U.K., the place where Sybil is based. She says '[it] looks so prehistoric & Jurassic, I love it.'

It is wonderful how Sybil integrates the mystic yet ancient vibe of this plant into her mix. It describes the complex form and the magic which comes with the age of its existence on earth very well. There are moments in which one can imagine to really communicate with this inspiring plant and feel the atmosphere around it in our forests.

Liuos seemed to arrive on the dub techno scene all at once with Terms EP, his strong debut on Cold Tear Records, but this was the culmination of two decades of experimentation and discipline. A unique mix of power and spaciousness, of both longing and will, Liuos’ work stands out for its clarity and expansiveness. Working steadily from his modest studio in Finland, Liuos has quietly become a respected name in the world of dub techno, with releases on Cold Tear, Lucidflow, and spclnch, and remixes for Superordinate Dub Waves and Off Records (Belgium).

this is a cut from my full set on Thursday night @ Aural Stage and actually first time when i succeeded to record one. opening the festival on a foggy dusk traversing into the depths of the night..
since my first barefoot steps on Waha Festival back in 2014 I immediately felt that i became part of a very powerful tribe yet to be discovered. a strong feeling of connection and unity with every single element embraced me and thus my journey of discovery has begun. a connection i never experienced before and couldn’t find anywhere else either. years have passed but that feeling never left Waha’s playground and so many unique moments were lived there throughout the years.
the biggest challenge occurred when the break was announced in 2019. it seemed that the tribe was split apart and everyone took his own path of self-improvement and realignment. so coming back this year for me felt like a family reunion that didn’t see each other for 4 years. we definitely became stronger and wiser but inside we are still those happy kids that wanna play in wonderland.
infinite love and gratitude to anyone who took part of it and special thanks to Tudor & Monica for their constant support. can’t imagine where i would be without Waha Festival and everything it offered to me. 10th to 15th of August were definitely one the best days in the last years of my life and the waiting was totally worth it.
last but not least, this mix is dedicated to a good friend of mine, Laza Marco, that passed away just few days before coming to Waha. rest in peace, dear Marco, you’re forever in our hearts.
