Kirby & the Amazing Mirror was the seventh main-series Kirby game. It was developed by HAL Laboratory and Flagship, and was released for the Nintendo GameBoy Advance on April 15, 2004. It's soundtrack was composed by Hironobu Inagaki and Atsuyoshi Isemura.
There are a number of reasons why I chose this game's soundtrack to focus on for my album. As far as Kirby games go, its probably on the more obscure end. I'd consider it to be a criminally underrated game; it is a great blend of familiar Kirby gameplay with elements of Metroidvania. Its soundtrack does not tend to see a lot of attention in the video game remixing community, which is one of the reasons I chose it for this album.
More importantly, I chose Amazing Mirror because it is significant to me. It was the first Kirby game I ever owned and played until completion, and still stands as a very nostalgic childhood classic for me. Each and every song has left its mark for me, since I listened to the soundtrack a lot when I was younger. I still remember many a long car trip I spent not even playing the game, but simply listening to the soundtrack through my little earphones. Though it does not have the same iconic status as Dreamland, Adventure, or Super Star, its soundtrack has many gems including Rainbow Route and Candy Constellation. Please enjoy my takes on these fantastic songs!

Now we get into the interesting songs. Here is the theme of the first level: Rainbow Route, one of my favourites! It has a steady, march-like feel, so I used militaristic snare patterns, bombastic cymbal crashes, and powerful timpani strikes. I really wanted to emphasize the brass as well, so I added a tuba to the bassline, and made sure the trumpet flourishes and harmonies sounded appropriately triumphant.

This is the theme from the beginning tutorial stage. It sort of foreshadows later themes such as Rainbow Route and Moonlight Mansion in terms of its sound. I stuck fairly true to the original, with flutes and strings taking the lead. As you can tell, the bassline plays a prominent role in this soundtrack.

The original song almost sounds like there are voices singing, to me at least. For my interpretation I used a mellotron choir to keep that quirky sound. To add more interest to this rather short and repetitive song, I added a simple string section half way through.

This is the theme of the Mirror Shrine, the hub world of Kirby & the Amazing Mirror. It was a cloudy land in the sky filled with magical mirrors. I wanted my arrangement to be appropriately mystical. A soft choir creates that heavenly, angelic feeling. A variety of "twinkling" instruments, including the glockenspiel, celesta, and music box, keep the melody feeling light and airy.

3. Mirror Shrine (Kirby & the Amazing Mirror: Arranged)

It's been quite a while since I last uploaded something onto Soundcloud, so I figured I'd upload something I was working on just out of boredom. Where I've been recently killing time playing Puyo Puyo Tetris, I remembered just how good The Top Floor theme from Puyo Puyo 2 (also known as Final of Puyo Puyo 2) sounded, so I decided to go back and recreate the Super Puyo Puyo 2 version of the song, putting a Famicom/NES spin on it.

For this mix I've used the VRC6 and MMC5 memory banks to create additional channels, including some FM-sounding ones, and the additional FDS channel to further create some sound. With PCM sampling to allow higher quality drums, and a pseudo-echo to give the Noise channel some extra bite, I must admit I did quite enjoy this rendition.
