Biography: 
Belgian born ZeroA is a former DJ, at that time juggling with dub influenced house, techno, triphop and On-U Sound material. Also contributing mixtapes for local radiostations. In recent times he's producing his own tracks, merging the ethereal charm of ambient music, the pulsating rhythms of dub techno, and the immersive qualities of cinematic soundscapes. Up till now his music was published through Crossfade Sounds, Velvet Dub Collective, Slope Point, Insectorama, spclnch and DubLucid. ZeroA can be found on Spotify, Soundcloud and on Instagram with visual work.

ZeroA

On the first day of September, Hekske (the little witch) woke up in a cool and damp forest. With her eyes still half-open from a good night’s sleep, her heart suddenly skipped a beat from excitement when she realized the next night there would be a full moon, which meant she’ll participate in the monthly witch coven. She woke up Falke (the witch apprentice) and after drinking their morning tea, they got into a flying mood and flew into the unknown. They knew they would – as always - reach their destination by simply following their inner compass.
This time they flew to the North-West and after a long flight over the North Sea, they finally saw a rugged coastline with white cliffs. And after flying for a few more hours over a variety of lush green landscapes, they finally sensed they had reached their destination at the edge of a huge forest, where an old witch was waiting for them. She introduced herself as Fiona, and after a warm welcome hug, the girls followed their guide deep into the woods until they reached a pond with a mirror-like surface. The witches slipped out of their immaculately white dresses and waded into the crystal-clear water. This place was incredibly still and quiet. The witches were just lazily floating on the surface, looking at all these shades of green around them and soaking up the serene energy.
The mood was so relaxed that the witches only got out of the water when the sun was going down. To their bewilderment they found out that their white dresses had been replaced by 3 green dresses. Intuitively, they knew which dresses belonged to each witch. Falke was immediately drawn to the short dress with the frisky spring colors, while Hekske fell instantly in love with the emerald green dress with the mysterious patterns, which was matching perfectly with her bright green eyes. The witches tried the dresses on and magically all were a perfect fit. 
Fiona (now wearing an elegant dark-green dress) led her guests to a nearby apple tree, which was bearing so many fruits that the branches were hanging down. The girls all picked a green apple, and ate it with great appetite. This was easily the best apple Hekske had ever tasted. And after eating the fruit, she felt even more connected than ever with the lush surroundings.
After this, the witches lied down on the soft moss at the foot of a giant oak tree, when they sensed an unusual presence. Falke opened her eyes and saw a green viper next to her. She knew she had nothing to fear from this snake and stretched out her hand. Soon the curious viper was slithering over her body before curling up on Falke’s belly and seemingly falling asleep. This meant that Falke was not only a dragon tamer but also a snake charmer. She spent the whole night with the beautiful snake on top of her, and the next morning she kissed goodbye to her new friend. Time had come to fly back to her home forest in Flanders and tell a lot of new stories to all the forest dwellers …

Fede Fröstl Birthday Set, live at Pickwicks Viena - 20.9.25

Scattering for many years between different underground music genres, this frequency collided with the techno soundscape in 2016, creating an outburst of energy.
After he took the Belgian MUSICASA producer’s education, as a first step to pursuing his dream, he quickly released EP's and remixes on melodic techno labels such as SMR Underground, Melodia Records, Tanzgemeinschaft, and Papaya music.

After releasing and performing on various stages, and through the process of producing and self-awareness, he felt the melodic techno genre wasn’t the perfect reflection of what inspired and drove him.

In 2022 he had a change of heart as he started focusing more on
underground hypnotic, atmospheric and ambient techno, reaching for that inner spirit and dynamic balance. This resulted in releases on some of the biggest labels in the hypnotic scene like DORIAN, The Gods Planet, BAHN, Khoros, Informa, Space Textures, Arcadia,... with many more on the way.

Sometimes it's a matter of perspective. It’s that old story: If you only know one leg of the elephant, you might think it's a tree. Only different perspectives give
you the full picture.

The same applies to a frame. For some, it means orientation, focus, safety, or the rules for a good game. For others, a frame means limitation, restriction,
regulation, or an inappropriate narrative. Both perspectives are valid depending on space, time, and the people involved.

Of course, different perspectives are not alternative facts. A fire in the Carakum Desert is not a date grove. However, the meaning of a fact depends on our
perspective. Behind some perspectives are needs. That is human nature. I want to dance, you want to dance. Shall we try it together? Not every step on the
other’s toe is wicked intent. Sometimes it's clumsiness, sometimes it's even funny, and sometimes you've just made a really wild move yourself. Sometimes a wake-up call... When we forget how to share different perspectives, we see trees where there are elephants, we see division where there are similarities, and fears are fulfilled instead of needs. And in the end, we may only see letters where we actually can hear Meeronauten Musik!

Today we are happy to have https://soundcloud.com/zeroa_sc, a gifted producer and DJ from Belgium, with a very pleasant Genre-mix behind the decks!
 
ZeroA makes genre-defying tracks that combine ambient, dub, dub techno and downtempo with atmospheric and cinematic elements.
 
ZeroA Bio:

Belgian born ZeroA was a former DJ in the nineties, at that time juggling with dub influenced
house, techno, triphop, rock and On-U Sound material. Also contributing mixtapes for local
radiostations. In recent times he's producing his own tracks, merging ambient music and the
pulsating rhythms of dub techno, mixing them with cinematic elements.

Up till now his music was published through Crossfade Sounds, Velvet Dub Collective, Slope
Point, Insectorama, Superordinate Dub Waves, spclnch, Ecoul SND and DubLucid. ZeroA also
likes to cooperate with other musicproducers like Francesco Tamburrano, Substak,
Deepdrome, Dream Cycle Inc., a.o.
The current multifaceted mix not only marries the intricate worlds of ambient, dub techno,
and downtempo but can also serve as a captivating soundtrack for a visual journey, inviting
listeners to explore the depths of their imagination. Like the title suggests, it was inspired by
days of rain in late September after my return from a burning hot trip to the Middle East ;)

Set of the Day Podcast - 965 - Foss & Stoxx

English brothers Mark and Clive Ives were not even ten years old when they formed their first band together. Inspired by the music of the Beatles, the duo, along with a couple of friends, thrashed around on an old drum kit and some guitars in a South London garage, playing for anybody who would listen. Sadly the original foursome parted ways but many years later the brothers began recording together again as Woo, the group responsible for this week’s exceptional Métron Musik Mixtape.

Aged 13, Mark was given a clarinet by his uncle and soon taught himself how to play. His younger brother Clive bought a Roland synthesiser half a dozen years after that and it was then that they began recording music together for the first time. They released their debut LP in the early 1980’s, continuing to release records in the decades that followed. Though they often received critical acclaim the band never really found a home for their unique sound, often self-releasing their LPs to a cult following. But things changed for the band in 2012 when the excellent Drag City records reissued their 1989 album ‘It’s Cosy Inside’. All of a sudden people began to take notice and Woo’s work received closer attention, culminating in a run of reissues including most recently ‘Awaawaa’ which was reissued this year by the excellent Palto Flats imprint. It was this record which led me to the bands music for the first time and I was immediately intrigued by what I heard. A collection of tracks recorded between 1976 and 1982, the music sounded to me like it could just as easily have been made in 2016 as 1986, this timeless and unique quality is very much a part of the charm Woo possesses in abundance.

Their sound is instantly recognisable to those who have heard the band before, their blend of trippy, obscure, 'folk-jazz' has been described as '‘Eno-esque’’ and  ‘’like Pop music from another universe’’ and it’s an apt description of this weeks Métron Musik Mixtape, a retrospective look across their many releases. When I spoke with Clive he said he wanted to compile a mixtape that reflected the bands  creative journey over the many decades they have been recording together. They decided to take a single track from 14 of their records dating all the way back to their brilliantly titled debut ‘Whichever Way You Are Going, You Are Going Wrong’ and present them in a single flowing mixtape. The results are wonderful and eclectic, showcasing the depth of sonic textures, musical cultures and singular  songwriting techniques the band have perfected over the years. 

For me their music plays out like an animated dream from an Ari Folman movie. A kind of magical and surreal trip into an imaginary realm where the colours are brighter and more beautiful, where your senses are forever overwhelmed. I really have fallen in love with their music, so it gives me great pleasure to present a retrospective look at Woo, a band any music lover should get the chance to listen to.

Joy Orbsion is someone we have a long and fruitful relationship with here at Dekmantel. He is, and always has been, a pure embodiment of UK dance music. His sound is steeped in English musical history (often explicitly in the form of sampled monologues) but also very much makes a new history of its own. He’s had countless underground hits from his definitive post-dubstep breakthrough ‘Hyph Mngo’ to his peak time tech tools with Boddika, and each one marks a mini reinvention of his style. What ties them all together, though, is O’Grady’s unique penchant for blending garage, bass, funky, house, techno and old school jungle into his own fresh concoctions. 

The two hour podcast he has served up here -as a perfect warm up to our festival this weekend- is split into two parts. Says the artist himself, “the first half is basically a way of showcasing producers that are doing great things at the moment and is completely made up of new, unreleased music, and the second half is basically winding things down with a load of stuff from my record collection. A come down, of sorts.” Starting with a spoken word snippet from his jungle playing uncle Ray Keith, the mix is initially atmospheric and moody, with sleek and stripped back drums and smeared synths making for a heady and intimate mood. After picking up through skewed bass patterns and skeletal techno, the second half seduces with elegiac rhythms, jazz selections and spoken word tracks as well as delicious soul sounds, reggae and stoned broken beat.  The results show exactly where Orbison is at musically, as well as offering an insight into where he has come from.
