Rising out of Israel’s hotbed of talent, Maydan is an artist with an impressive story to tell. From bedroom DJ to highly-regarded nightclub resident, the Israeli native has carved out a niche of sizable proportions as he continues his assault on the global dance scene.

Rising to the upper echelons of his country’s ever-expanding music scene from humble origins, a mixer and a pair of turntables saw Maydan climb to the summit of the Tel Aviv dance scene, coupled with a burning passion and an unwavering dedication to his craft. Add to the mix a healthy dose of talent and experience and it quickly becomes clear why the Israeli became resident at some of the most elegant hotspots in his city with his finger perfectly poised over the cultural pulse.

Able to command an audience far beyond his homeland, DJ performances in Zurich, Prague and Amsterdam’s famous Club NL, have extended the Maydan name outside his country’s borders. Moreover, DJ appearances alongside a surfeit of hallowed names – from Carl Cox and Sasha to Hernan Cattaneo and Joris Voorn – have showcased the MayDan name in the bright glow of neon lights.

Inspired by leading figures that have shaped the underground dance scene, both at home and on the international stage, the Maydan production career has continued to grow apace since joining the Asymmetric Recordings roster in 2015. Subsequently heading up A&R for both the main label and its sister imprint, Asymmetric Dip, Maydan’s role has evolved impressively over time. With his work additionally signed to Cattaneo’s Sudbeat and Tvardovsky’s Dear Deer, Maydan’s work for the Lonya led label provided a new impetus for his music to shine with 2016’s “Absolute Isolation” EP taking centre stage. We have now arrived to the third chapter in our successful downbeat and chill-out series.
Eleven exquisite tunes selected by swedish electronic music composer Magnus Birgersson, more known as Solar Fields. His first album 'Reflective Frequencies' was released 2001 on french label Ultimae. Today Magnus has released five full length albums and is a well established name in the ambient music scene.

First out is James Murray from London, UK with 'Last man in the World'. James is working as a freelance composer, producer and sound designer and is currently finishing his debut album which will be released on Ultimae. Second is newcomer Amos from Upplands Vaesby near Stockholm Sweden, presenting his jazzy ambient track 'Street Lights'. Swedish producer I Awake is next with his wonderful 'Life Cipher', followed by Gothenburg duo Carbon Based Lifeforms 'Endospore', a dreamlike, euphoric track.

Tune number five is no other than Solar Fields himself giving us 'Feelings', a extraordinary piece of music craftmanship. Next up is Vibrasphere, here teamed up with american singer Irina Mikhailova. Their track 'Meander' is a true masterpiece of chilled music.

Continuing the musical journey, norway producer Xerxes gives us his 'Early Morning Crystals', a more groovy, hypnotic number straight from the norwegian fiords. The following tune is from Dennis Tapper, more known as Hux Flux. Together with former Ibojima-member Magnus Holte they have formed the project Illuminus. Here they present their psychedelic dub soundscape 'Dem Cowboys'.

Chromosome continues the psychedelic surges with the melodic 'Evens Heaven', followed by the trance veteran Blue Planet Corporation with his magnificent, funky 'A Foret(e)st Of Paradise'. Closing the collection is no other than Robert Elster from Vibrasphere and technoproducer Martin Skogehall as the duo Kritical Audio. 'Yellow Blend' is a brilliant, rythmic piece with a catchy 303 bassline.

Originally from Turkey, this brilliant producer started out at a young age and made his way in music by playing a traditional long-necked lute known as a saz. It’s thanks to this early relationship with music that Islandman developed the technique and feeling needed to handle farfetched rhythms, sounds and chants inspired by the flowering cultures of the Mediterranean Basin and beyond to blend them with mastery in his tracks and mixes. This eclecticism and understanding of music has helped him put together a wide range of melodies and musical styles which extend from enchanting edits of traditional Bulgarian sounds to smooth balearic disco. His mix is exciting and mesmerising, catching the mind in a gentle twine of melodies and rhythms. His perfect balance of percussions and electronic beats shakes and ripples throughout the track, and lifts you with ecstatic vibes. Q: Talking about your mix. How did you select the tracks and what do these tracks still mean to you?

A: I have chosen the songs with a super hammer bass that first came into my mind, thinking of the days when music started to seriously infect and influence me. They make me so happy and feel the love! 

Q: After finishing a horrible year 2020 we really look forward into better times this year. What do you expect in 2021?

A: I expect 2021 to get even more horrible. Watch out for my new band “The Vampires” on their “Blood on the Dance Floor” tour.

Q: Which projects are you currently working on?

A: Going to Hollywood. We are working hard on a deal with the producers of “The Return Of The Living Dead V”. Press thumbs!

Pilocka Krach - HOW I MET THE BASS #193

Thank you for finding the latest in the In Too Deep series.  I wanted to drop a set that summed up what we have nearly all felt we have missed in 2020.  The ability to start a night out with a few chill tunes just to get us in the mood, maybe a couple of ‘pre drinks’… the anticipation of the night ahead… and then the night itself.  Funky Chap and I wanted to create a set that carried you through the journey of a great night out from beginning to end to remind us all that it won’t be long until we are able to get out there again and share a great time with friends and fresh tunes to match.
For this set you will find Funky Chap spinning the first hour in typical fashion from him.. an eclectic style that I struggle to find anyone else managing with such a cool and well, funky approach.  I’d say it’s very unique, and that’s what I love about him.  As head honcho of one of the best and most established channels out there with Sunset Grooves, it was a great honour to have him aboard for this trip.

So I play the second hour, and I’m going back to my roots with a peak time clubby sound that I wanted you to close your eyes and imagine you are there amongst it all, with the wonderful people, the lights, the bass, hands in the air.. ah, how we miss it !

From Funky Chap..   I have been a fan of John’s edits and track selection from the moment I first heard him. Therefore the moment we got together to make this in too deep mix and being in charge of starting it off, I got inspired to choose tracks that would take the dance floor on a unique musical experience. Naturally, being the founder of @sunset-grooves my track selection always varies yet has that groove that will keep driving the mix. The idea is to get the listener all warmed up so that John can take over and exhaust the listeners to a frenzy. Hello everyone out there,

Markus aka @Zweigstelle provides us this weekend with 
a wonderful deep minimal and pretty dubby set !!

Zweig's seductive sound is inspired by the sweeping anthems of the great techno & house heroes of the nineties.
Labels like Harthouse, Eye Q, Strictly Rhythm and Nervous come to mind.

Being filled (and fuelled) with inspiration and enthused about the possibilities of computer-based music production, Markus Kalb started his project in the middle of the 2000s.
He developed a knack for making use of a wide spectrum of stylistic devices, embracing not only house and techno but also chill-out up to breakbeat. Hence his sound defies being narrowly pigeonholed.
Zweig productions are characterized by a very warm and harmonic sound.
He loves to mix vintage stylistics with fresh own ideas.

In 2015, he hit the scene with his first album „Dancing on Halos“ on Verform Records from Hamburg.
This was followed by strong releases on the labels Galvanic, D.Max.Chill and several compilations.
The albums "Out Of Range", "A Nerd And His Soundscape" and "Between Dimensions" marked further milestones on Zweig's journey into organic groove.

After he fell in love with electronic music and the techno scene as a young teenager it was only a matter of time before he started to mix and produce himself. His style ranges from deep electronic to melodic techno, incorporating progressive sounds, as well as driving techno.
His sets are intuitively led by his natural joyous mood and infectious vibe around him. He loves to create energetic spaces and always performs with passion behind the decks.
