David Bowie - Space Oddity (The Munk Machine Remix)

This is a live recording, captured at Ego club in Düsseldorf, June 5 1999.  The music has been created with a self written step sequencer, the PX-18, controlling  a basic sample player and effects engine, all done in MaxMSP, running on a Powerbook G3. The step sequencer had some unique features, e.g. the ability to switch patterns independently in each track, which later became an important part of a certain music software.

I found the recording on a backup disk today. It has not been edited or mastered. During the first 20 minutes of the set, and before the 'encore' the Monolake CD 'Gobi' is playing in the background.

Billie Ray Martin (of Electribe 101 and “Your Loving Arms” fame) provided the star attraction on DJ Hell's long awaited new album "NY Muscle" (International DJ Gigolo Records), released 2003.  Ms. Martin's million dollar voice leads one of the album's key songs, the Billie Ray penned "Je Regrette Everything".

 One leading UK magazine described the song in an advance preview: “The teutonic high priestess of ice cool soul channels Edith Piaf by way of Diamanda Galas on this hand-wringing dramafest. Epic.”

This electro-noir meets Shirley Bassey extravaganza-sound saw Billie thrill the audience at two huge mega DJ HELL release events last week in Paris and Berlin.  Press and TV attention was immense and Ms. Martin’s performance was singled out as “the one real live element to the shows”, receiving amazing responses from the large crowd.  London, New York and Tokyo saw this audio-visual spectacular in early 2004.

After setting sail on our maiden voyage a little over a year ago, we are now pleased to bring you our fourth release from the XVI camp. Featuring Eleven artists and family members , Imitating Life plunges the listener into a lucid soundscape, channeling new depths and ascending dizzying heights. Featuring a few familiar faces from our previous outings (as well as a few new additions) the album Spreads it's wings over a plethora of genres. Taking flight over an every changing musical landscape, from the blissful, cavernously deep sounds of Aeoukuo and Deminai through beautifully dark and melodic, left field compositions from Bambooman , Will Ward, My Panda Shall Fly & Liston whilst not forgetting to spend time above ground with dance floor infused productions from Real, Decyfer and Mau'lin. Volume Two continues our voyage, to shores unknown leaving rich textures and undeniable grooves in our wake.

Plaid (pronounced \ˈplad\) are the London based electronic music duo Andy Turner & Ed Handley. They are two of the founding members of The Black Dog, releasing their first EP in 1989 and signing to Warp Records in 1991. They have used many other pseudonyms including; Atypic, Repeats and Balil, but have focusing on Plaid since 1995. They have released 11 studio albums as Plaid, from 1991's 'Mbuki Mvuki', to 2022's 'Feorm Falorx'. 

Various sources claim they took their name “Plaid” from the Welsh word for “Party”.
