Billie Ray Martin (of Electribe 101 and “Your Loving Arms” fame) provided the star attraction on DJ Hell's long awaited new album "NY Muscle" (International DJ Gigolo Records), released 2003.  Ms. Martin's million dollar voice leads one of the album's key songs, the Billie Ray penned "Je Regrette Everything".

 One leading UK magazine described the song in an advance preview: “The teutonic high priestess of ice cool soul channels Edith Piaf by way of Diamanda Galas on this hand-wringing dramafest. Epic.”

This electro-noir meets Shirley Bassey extravaganza-sound saw Billie thrill the audience at two huge mega DJ HELL release events last week in Paris and Berlin.  Press and TV attention was immense and Ms. Martin’s performance was singled out as “the one real live element to the shows”, receiving amazing responses from the large crowd.  London, New York and Tokyo saw this audio-visual spectacular in early 2004.

The Hypercolour train picks up yet more steam with their next release, a double A side from Maxxi Soundsystem Featuring Name One on vocal duties and legendary sonic inventor Matthew Herbert in the remix role. Brighton based beatsmith Maxxi Soundsystem has risen to the top of the pile in recent months with heartfelt jams for Needwant and Futureboogie all fusing uplifting melodies with melancholic beats. 

And it’s a similar MO on this unassumingly anthemic new track, ‘Regrets We Have No Use For.’ Characterised by a wavy, frayed synth line that grows louder then quieter in the mix, soft shakers bring some wiggle whilst the breathy voice of Name One floats up above. It’s charming and sultry, slowly working its way under your skin at the same time as making you dance all under pinned by a monstrous, all consuming and grumbling bass line that makes your chest throb and head bob. 

Found sound innovator and general all round music chief Matthew Herbert goes for a much less soupy sound on his remix. The beats here are less smooth and more splintered, propping up the now distant, filtered vocal that drifts in and out of focus. Of course, the background synth are now much more unhinged and trippy in Herbert’s hands, with the resulting effect one suited to darkened back rooms in the dead of night. 

As ever, an unpredictable release from Hypercolour but that sounds as unique as anything the label has offered up in the past.

"Come Out And Play" Creepy Music Box Royalty Free

Moustache Records welcomes Senor Chugger to the label family! His debut EP 'One More Tune & One More Pint' (yes come on let's have it!!) aims to encompass the euphoric feeling of being on a dance floor with nothing but your mates and some good music (and pints). Honestly I'd be happy if that's what's awaiting me in the afterlife. 'Press the Flesh' is the head of our proverbial euphoric snake, making no promises other than you'll have a bloody good time listening to it. 'Midnight Scooter Cruise' is about those last few moments before the lights come on; feeling genuinely happy to have been able to live in the present for more than a few seconds throughout the night and have a laugh - followed by thoughts such as 'Goodness me I'm going to feel horrific tomorrow'. Flipping over to the B side (or the snake's ass, if you will), we have 2 tracks competing for the loudest snare award. 'Head in the Clouds of Smoke' is a nod towards the great times had in the peak of the midday sun at festivals, where otherwise non-smokers inexplicably decide to chuff their way through a 20 pack. Last, but by no means least, 'Newton Abbot Reunion' is about going back home to see old friends - one of the more wholesome hangovers I'm sure you can relate to. Overall this EP wants you to keep on dancing - there will always be one more tune, and one more pint (unless you've had too many in which case don't do that). 'Very very good EP. Possibly the best I've heard this year.' - Count van Delicious 'Will you stop making your Italy disco or whatever it's called and take the dog for a walk please' - Senor Chugger's mum This is the unknown hit everybody is looking for played by Moustache Labelboss David Vunk at numberous parties, club and festivals!!!! Plaid (pronounced \ˈplad\) are the London based electronic music duo Andy Turner & Ed Handley. They are two of the founding members of The Black Dog, releasing their first EP in 1989 and signing to Warp Records in 1991. They have used many other pseudonyms including; Atypic, Repeats and Balil, but have focusing on Plaid since 1995. They have released 11 studio albums as Plaid, from 1991's 'Mbuki Mvuki', to 2022's 'Feorm Falorx'. 

Various sources claim they took their name “Plaid” from the Welsh word for “Party”.
