An old friend returns to Pets. Three years after his ‘Polyphonic’ EP, Catz ‘n Dogz bring the legend that is Mathias Kaden back on the label and the results speak for themselves…
Following his recent barnstormers on Avotre and Rekids, both ‘Square’ and ‘Distant Horizon’ deliver in that unhurried, cosmic journey-like way Kaden has made his signature over the years: gentle layering, subtle moment, palpable atmospheres but the drive and underbelly of a bulldozer. 
‘Square’ kicks off the show with an eight-minute adventure into deep, warm undulating acid. Heavy subs, fluid drums and a persistent spoken vocal texture, this one wraps you up like a cloak. ‘Distant Horizon’, meanwhile, whips that cloak off so quickly it will send you spinning deeper and deeper into the celestial rabbit hole. A 10-minute Mathias epic, it warms up with a progressive rolling feel for a good few minutes before we’re suddenly derailed into a trippy, hazy brew of weird bass bubbles and some rather outlandish spoken word. Poetry in high grade technoid motion. 
And the motion doesn’t stop there… Ever ones to get involved, Catz ‘n Dogz get their paws on ‘Distant Horizon’ and give it their own gritty, grainy, trippy twist. Two parts tribal, one part bass, all parts peak time, this doesn’t just stare out at the horizon but flies you right over it. 
Two beautiful originals, one killer remix. Be there or be ‘Square’…

INFO: There’s no stopping Theus Mago right now. Mexican cosmic groove wizard, Duro bossman all-round G; Mago continues to lay down gold after gold after gold. Hot on the heels of his Correspondant outing comes this deep hypno session on Pets. 
‘Baqa’ takes the lead, hurling us into some deep trance manoeuvres with its voodoo style chant and hunch-backed creepy chord progression. Total drama, done with class; there’s a lot of fun to be had with a track like this. ‘Jingo’ follows suit with another narrative-like atmosphere. Powered with a deep drive, laced with a little electro charm and armed with an elevated twist onto a whole other melodic plane just when you least expect it, this one’s so detailed you’ll find it hard to mix out of. 
Finally we have the brilliantly-titled ‘Rave Dave’. Thundering drums, rising chords, creepy FX and a momentum that locks you in like it’s 1991 all over again, an industrial strength EP deserves an industrial strength finale. Everyone knows a rave Dave – the type of soldier who could dance all weekend and still be fresh for a Monday – well these are the sounds that loop in his mind. Now they’ll loop in yours.

Still high, still alive, still dirty as hell: Demuir continues his incredible vein of form with this powerful Pets debut. Two originals, one dub, all acid, all ‘Black Soul’. 
‘Black Kids Luv Techno’ sets the tone with clarity. Industrial strength jacking beats provide a pounding canvas while the spiky 303 funk and robotic speak’n’spell splashes paint the picture. Full-on in widescreen width; it’s Detroit, it’s Chicago, it’s London, it’s one of the heaviest cuts Demuir has given us. This black kid freaking loves techno and techno loves him all the way back. 
‘Something Inside Of Me’ continues the timeless, venomous 303 theme. Once again, we’re led by an elasticated 303 lead that morphs and mutates the way all good acid lines should. But this time it’s backed by more of a shuffled, groovier drum set and warp-speed chords landing at all the right moments. Rolling, hypnotic, deadly; be it with the spoken word original or the instrumental dub, this absolutely shells. Just like his recent cuts on Robsoul, Desolt and Hot Creations have in the last few months alone. Something tells us there’s plenty more inside this Toronto talent’s mind… Show some luv.

‘Glass Mistress’ sets the stark, stripped-back tone for the collection. Writhing and flexing in some late night 80s neon dungeon, there’s an added sense of barbed tech noir as the stern processed vocals stalk around a rifle-like arpeggiated bassline. ‘Trapped’ follows. The darkest track of the collection, there’s a strong stench of 90s warehouses and fields in the middle of nowhere as a big bass riff does all the talking. Heads down, hands up, this captures the essence of the music that’s brought us all together in the first place.

Finally ‘Naughty Party’ maintains the togetherness but in a much more mischievous way with a classic electro-style bassline, synth-tom percussion hits and eerie chords. Naughty by name, heavy by nature; Joyce has delivered something special right here.

But his secret persona should not fool anyone. His music sounds like it has been lifted from an old Databass Records or Dance Mania pressing. With pure raw energy aimed right at the dance floor, these 4 cuts are guaranteed to get those booties poppin'.
