The Beatportal Residency: Aus Music & Seb Wildblood

The Off The Record series ventures stateside to Chicago, Illinois to reach out to one of the most iconic modern labels going at the moment; International Anthem, who are now celebrating 11 years on the planet. Started in 2012 by Scottie McNiece and David Allen International Anthem Recording Company has been focused on pushing some of the most ground breaking sounds in Jazz, funk, soul and blues. With a roster that extends to names like Makaya McCraven, Jeff Parker, Damon Locks, Carlos Nino and more it has proved to have an eye for the highest quality in sound and curation. For this mix the label has nominated their own Alejandro Ayala AKA King Hippo to hon and curate the sounds provided. King Hippo was the label representative on the International Anthem Worldwide FM Chicago show - so we are definitely in good hands. Coming in at a clean hour, Ayala brings in various styles of Jazz, moulded expertly to provide a perfect home listening experience or what the label likes to be known as the "Floating Kissaten Mix". We sat down and had a chat about the mix with Alejandro, as well as about the label and about what they have coming up in the future for their 11th year.

No editing was ever done on the recorded Sax and Piano parts but volume adjusting.
It is modal music, in the sophisticated sense  of contemporary Jazz.
There is no composition, no previously written themes. It is pure improvisation.

Jon Dixon is a deeply talented producer and DJ who represents the new wave of Detroit whilst connecting very firmly with the roots and origins of music in the city.

Detroit remains one of the most forward thinking cities in the realm of music, evolving from Motown to the deeper, more rugged House and Techno which has inspired pretty much everyone else ever since. Detroit is the foundation - everything else is merely imitation.

Jon Dixon is crucially aware of this and remains very much connected to the origins of Jazz, House and Techno whilst continues to push things forward with dynamic production styles and his ability to collaborate with a broad array of musicians.

As a producer his style is deep and in parts dubbed out. It's emotive and helps to communicate the raw undercurrent of the city in the truest sense.

This mix features a number of his own cuts, versions, originals and collaborations cementing his place amidst the greats.

As DJ and producer, Fernanda has been in the party, production and underground electronic scene in Santiago, Chile for more than 10 years before establishing herself in Madrid.

She released numerous eps on labels such as Permanent Vacation, Duro, Pets Recordings, theBasement Discos or her own United Colors of Rhythm label.
As dj she's a resident at infamous CafeBerlin in Madrid.

Her sound moves between deep house and techno, synthesizers also influenced by the 80s, bright boxes, Latin rhythms and pop machines. The result is a music between dark, funny and intense rhythms: a risky proposition, yet easy and intuitive that causes a physical effect shared on the dance floor.
