When the Das Druid’s album landed in our inbox, we admittedly listened with skepticism. A whole album, a whole damn album!? But a few minutes in the skepticism turned into romanticism and we were immersed and in love with the Das Druid sound. I mean whats not to love when it sounds like a combination of three of your favourite bands - Primal Scream, The Stone Roses, and Happy Mondays. 

A nod to Manchester, the Hacienda, rave culture, being ‘lost in the music’, and all music based upon groove the ‘Das Album’ is a retro-futurist approach to modern-day psychedelia. Pure bliss from start to finish Das Druid’s  ‘Das Album’ is available April 22nd worldwide via Beats of No Nation.

Люсі про мікс:  «Коли ти знаходишся на чужині, всією душею і тілом тягне на Батьківщину. Особливо, коли міграція вимушена і зовсім не входила у твій план.

Ще малою у школі на уроках літератури нам часто розказували про долю письменників чи поетів, які були у засланні. Всі їх твори були про Україну, про тугу, синю журбу, несумісну з життям. І лише ставши дорослою й сама опинившись у духовній аскезі, я зрозуміла, що почуття любові до рідного краю — це невід’ємна частина моєї ідентичності. 

Тому цей мікс — уособлення  всіх емоцій, які переповнюють мене. Слухаючи ці композиції, я переношусь у дитинство. Пам’ятаю, як дорогою в село ми з дідусьом і бабусьою слухали саме таку українську музику: Яремчука, Івасюка, Гнатюка та Білозір. А вранці я приходила до них у кімнатку, щоб просто послухати радіо Ера. 

Зараз важливо не лише створювати контент українською, формувати українську культуру, але й берегти нашу спадщину. Багато хто з виконавців та музикантів, яких я додала до міксу, вже не наші сучасники, але саме завдяки їм поняття “любов” оспіване рідною мовою»

Maara’s latest effort comes straight from the inner zone. Whether meant for use as vision quest guidance or club hedonism, Fancy Feast continues the Canadian’s tradition of crafting seductive, trance-inducing dance music in mesmeric fashion. 

‘Can’t Slo Down’ is a vehicle for transcendence. Locked-in, hypnotic fare with subtle gear shifts consistent with Maara’s propensity towards trippy atmospherics and urgent dancefloor dynamics. Then, in a heady alloy of ritual throb and fractal warehouse ruffness, ‘Highrollerz’ finds Maara at her most propulsive. 

Prog reigns supreme across the record, but 'Princess Express' has the third-eye dilating magick in full effect. It’s both fractal and functional, a ritual incantation with rugged appeal. ‘Rude, Crude & Out Of Control’, on the other hand, harks back to those halcyon days of the free party movement. Proper breakbeat torque with yet another healthy dose of prog.

There’s a great sense for taming nostalgia in Lithuanian-born Klimas’ work. Based in Kaunas, real name Rokas Klimas works on setting his signature sound with a great passion for the genres of the past that flourished at the end of the previous century. The production is obviously dipped in Italo,  New Wave, and New Beat more than anything else but also showcases a huge amount of interest for the dancer of modern times through investigations of minimal techno, electro, d’n’b, and dubstep. His allies for getting the more convincing sounds are machines from the USSR era, vintage synthesizers, and other gadgets in the studio. Klimas’ background also includes some action with the Rebel Army group that got its big sound system-ready EP released on Mixmag and VNTGRD labels. 

With his long-term collaborator Tautvydas, Klimas started a label-slash-music-sharing-space in Kaunas called Lempa. As a producer, he promises a lot of stories from the past in the future.

PT001 - Caravan - Riviera EP (Snippets)

Symptoms of Love, a project by Detroit duo Ryan Spencer (Freakish Pleasures) and Ben Christensen (Sector 7G), present “Foam EP” scheduled to drop in January 2020. This is the team’s second release, a follow-up to their recent “Eye Contact” (SOBO, Montreal). “Foam EP” reflects a contrast of the high-energy late nights and laid-back afternoons in the sprawling echo-chamber of Detroit.

Recorded over the course of two years, the duo stack live instrumentation onto the vast synth and drum machine collection in Christensen’s home studio. The tracks are finished with explorations into sample-based wormholes that deliver a truly diverse EP. The sounds cruise through balearic and streetsoul inspired smoothness, machine funk dance floor jams, and bleepy percussive workouts.
