In this episode of Aficionado's Francachela, Pau Roca (@paur) takes over one hour of the show. The Barcelona-based artist, besides his well-established DJ career, manages Bons Records label and recently founded Escola record label with Breixo Martínez.

Pau has paid tribute to house music, disco, boogie, electronic, and everything in between at his Libido parties at the emblematic Nitsa Club. He has become something of an institution in Barcelona with his radio show at Dublab. He also recently released his first solo EP on Los Angeles' Pleasure of Love, a release that includes a remix of the legendary Pal Joey.

De Disco Gemeenschap Radio Episode 1 - Temise & Boyd V @MaxiRadio

Marshall Watson is an American, west-coast based DJ, producer and composer with a body of work spanning almost two decades. In late 2019 Marshall connected with Phil Cooper, head of the NuNorthern Soul record label, which resulted in the release of two EPs titled Sunsets On Larkin (Parts 1 & 2), as well as a track contribution to the NuNorthern Soul Summer Sampler Volume 3 LP. Both the EPs and the vinyl sampler were highlighted on Juno Records' artist picks last year. Marshall’s latest record, entitled Foothills, and featuring remixes by Seahawks, will be out April 28th on NuNorthern Soul, available on both 12” vinyl and digital format.

We asked Marshall to provide some insights on his mix for The Sunrise Social: 
'I wanted to compile some records that would leave the listener feeling positive and ready to start the day. Not just ambient records for the sake of being ambient, but tracks that had a dreamy quality that progressed with the tempo of the sun rising. These songs never veer into the dark, and have an organic quality that consistently move upward. I wanted to include some classic tracks as well as contemporary releases. 'The Hypnotist' by Sisterlove was one of the first Balearic records I heard back in the mid 90s. The soundtrack to many post-rave mornings sitting on the bank of the Mississippi River in New Orleans, watching the sun come up. 100% Vinyl, 100% Love'.

This is part of a restored and remastered mix originally recorded one evening at The Sense Bar back in 2011. The Sense Bar was a lounge bar in downtown Oslo, known for its intimate atmosphere, superb cocktails and fantastic sound system (a Funktion-One setup if I remember correctly). I had the pleasure of playing at this cosy venue on several occasions during a particularly busy live schedule around 2010-2011. Sadly, The Sense Bar closed its doors in 2015. Hope you enjoy this trip down memory lane. JC

As we turn the corner from Summer into Autumn, we're pleased to welcome Isaac Peces (Galicia, Spain) to the Island, with a mix that spans mid-tempo boogie & balearic beauties.

Isaac is a DJ and record collector who has loved boogie, funk, african, house, balearic and tropical sounds for more than ten years. He has played at clubs and festivals in Europe including Brilliant Corners, Le Mellotron, Paloma Bar, Passos Manuel or Berlín Café. 

After posting several mixes and podcasts, he's excited to be joining the new club Don Giorgio that is set to open in October, with bookings secured from global tastemakers including: CC:Disco, Millos Kaiser & Coco Maria!

Islander Cast (#6) - Isaac Peces

Plastic Fantastic is the alias of Oslo/Norway-based DJ and producer John Clements. Originally formed as a duo with Eirik Wulff-Engh in 2012, Eirik decided to step away from the partnership in 2020 leaving John to continue Plastic Fantastic as a solo project.

Plastic Fantastic’s first record Here Comes The Sun was released on Spanish label Our Nights Recordings in November 2014. The digital bundle featured remixes from Ilya Santana, Beatfanatic and Dynamicron. Response to their debut was favorable with music blog Como Las Grecas offering a particularly warm review of the record. Remix-wise, the Ilya Santana remix faired especially well, making it into the top ten on the Traxsource Essential Nu Disco/Indie Dance Chart within two weeks of release. In 2015 the boys agreed to license the Beatfanatic remix of​ Here Comes The Sun ​for an exclusive 12" vinyl release on the highly regarded Aficionado Recordings imprint. Released in July 2015, the record reached the number two spot on Juno Records Vinyl Singles Chart,​ a​s well as number five in the Balearic/Downtempo Chart. It was Bestseller Of The Week and Piccadilly Records Genre Pick Of The Week. The record enjoyed heavy rotation and support, particularly from Coyote (Is It Balearic),​ Faze Action and Kenneth Bager (Music For Dreams).

A collaboration with Sally Rodgers from A Man Called Adam in 2017 resulted in Give The Light Back To The Night, released exclusively on vinyl on Andy Pye’s Balearic Social Records. This 12” release also became Piccadilly Records Genre Pick Of The Week.

Reflections Of The Sun was released in 2019 on Ibiza based label NuNorthern Soul. Released under the duo's Mirage-alias, the two-track EP took almost five years to complete. The track Endless Ocean appeared on the 12" vinyl Summer Selections One, released in May 2019. The record also featured brand new tracks from Nick J Smith and Bonnie & Klein. The record was given much love and support, particularly from Chris Coco (Melodica) and David Pickering (One Million Sunsets Radio Show), and the record became something of a sunset staple at La Torre in Ibiza that summer.

Released in November 2022 on the French label Golden Forest Records, Dusk was the very last record that John and Eirik produced and collaborated on together. Recorded between May 2020 and June 2021, this epic masterpiece is arguably the duo's finest work, with reviewers drawing parallels to Tangerine Dream and The Future Sound Of London. The record features a remix by veteran Norwegian DJ and producer Rune Lindbæk. Feedback on the record was overwhelmingly positive with words of praise coming from Ryan Bishop (Dream Chimney), Chris Coco, Coyote, Mike Salta (Music For Dreams) and many others.

Plastic Fantastic is predominantly a studio project, but has been known to play live on occasion and frequently guests on select radio shows and podcasts around the globe. Plastic Fantastic also curates the mix series The Sunrise Social.
