everyone needs an alien abduction tune


The part of the story I never can tell
Is the part when you open your eyes
Its anti-climactic, but that’s just as well
The ending is still a surprise

You were sleeping

I’m not in the habit of waking at night
And maybe it all was a dream
But I turned to you and I swear that a light 
Was drawing you up in its beam

The white sheet trailed like a wedding gown
And you were an alien bride
A bit of snore bled from your parted lips
As you sailed past the stars in the sky

The end of the story still gives me the chills 
The moment you came back to me
I was up waiting and downward you fell
Still dreaming and wrapped your sheet, I said:

You Were Sleeping

A collaboration with Torbjørn Vagle and Jimmy Rivas.
Torbjorn sent me a demo of the track and asked if I would like to contribute, he said it was a truly open collab and at that point hadn’t decided whether it would be an instrumental or not.  I added my guitars to the track and sent a rough mix back to Torbjørn, it was then that he thought it would be good to add vocals.  We asked Jimmy if he would like to write lyrics and add his vocal to the track as we thought his voice would lift the track to another level, it certainly did!
It has been great fun and a real honour to collaborate with Torbjørn and Jimmy on this one, thanks also to session drummer John O’Reilly Jr. for his outstanding contribution.
Finished off by a superb painting, ‘Voices’ by Torbjørn Vagle, for use as the cover art, here is....... ‘Voices’.

A powerful song about a soldier who's stationed abroad in a war stricken zone and deeply longs for his precious family as everything is now washed away and gone. The cold and dusty haze, the land that's all torn up and distraught has simply become all too much to bear.

War is never pretty and so let us give love and deep gratitude to our veterans, to the soldiers who sacrifice/d and bring great justice and freedom to all...they are also suffering tremendous mental torture...the dark remnants of what they endured is forever lingering inside them...let us help make a difference by showing our deep regard and respect...to also give love and understanding, to help them recover and feel happiness again - May this song fill everyone up with endless love and positivity - XO

The day I heard Bruce Klepper's original composition, I felt a very strong instinct to ask him to let me create a rework using his final mix and adding my own additional interpretive tracks. Although I realize that this isn't done so often with modern classical music, I couldn't help but hear things in my head that I really wanted to record and see what came to pass. I was very pleased to get Bruce's approval for release on this piece. This is the kind of stuff that makes creating music an exciting prospect on every level.

Conquering and ruling cultures often oppress those they dominate. The oppressed, and those with less power, will always eventually seek justice, representation, and equal power from their subjugators. Those whose culture have been vilified, repressed, and appropriated can regain their power and love by learning about their past, choosing and identifying their cultural heroes for themselves, and restoring their appreciation and celebrations for their ancestors.  

May this song encourage an honest look into your past, acknowledging both the shadow and the light, appreciating the beauty of what was and is, and learning from accomplishments and mistakes to continue our evolution in becoming better co-creators with the planet.

I used some of a bass stem Alpha Roots sent me to make Red Earth Clay and I used the rest of the stem to make Sow Your Seeds. I have one unused bass and drum stem from Alpha Roots that I will make an old school hip hop song with and I may remix his original Hosanna bass stem one day to make a new reggae song. I may also ask Russ if I can make a version of Da Weed using Alpha Roots’ stems one day. After that, I may be complete unless I get gifted some Alpha Roots stems to play with. 

Huge thanks to Chiefo who set the original tone of this song which gave me inspiration for  the lyrics. Big ups to Fady, bit zone, and Lady of Fire Poetry for joining in on this project and adding their collective vibe. Massive thanks to Wou-Wou & the Wormling for keeping the track on skank with his rhythm guitar and for providing us with his incredible art work - commission him for some work y’all!!!
