Evolving around a funky bassline and classy guitar licks, and with its familiar, soulful vocal snippets, the track has an usual, slightly aggressive colour that makes it sound truly different from the usual disco tunes heard here and there.

The Possé are a new face to many people. The five piece run by Andrew Elston and Ross Ferraro is comprised of veterans from all over Australia’s music scene. After a year of knuckling down in the studio and a string of sold out shows they’ve boiled down their favourite influences into an incredible, raw, funked out live show and production team.

Happy Accidents is a back to basics approach to dance music and the first track off their debut EP called ‘Our Thing’. It is inspired by the arrangement, sound and musicality of traditional dance music styles like disco, funk and early house artists such as Mr Fingers.

There are no samples in this track and it was recorded in Haymarket, Sydney by the Possé using the following instruments:

Lagaffe Tales continue their impressive vinyl releases with an all-star European line up. The Icelandic label are again about to fill your eardrums with an array of house tracks. Out 12th of May on Lagaffe Tales.

Rolling out first and now playing ball on his home-court, Dirt Crew newcomer Felix Leifur introduces the sampler. “Eitt” comes soaked in soul and deadly stabs. His unique flavour is permeated all over this dancefloor filler. As weird and wonky as Felix gets, this one just about tops it. Twisting minds with his wizardry since his first release and by the sounds of this track, he has no plans to slow down. 

The second track on the EP comes from German duo, Coeo. This track will evoke the familiar 6am sunrise in this carefree deep club cut. “Clouds” has hard hitting drums that are infused in the soft piano riff creeping in and out accompanied by other hypnotic sounds. Caution! A journey into a deep state of dreamland awaits... 

The theme of European imports continues, this time Vienna based main man, Mooney Me lends his talents to the Icelandic label. His gift is “Soul”. With captivating percussion, a mean ass bassline all melded together with ethereal melodic chimes. A groove that will make any basement sweat out their worries. 

Rounding off is Swedish newcomer, Sune. If you’re looking for a groove that will get your body bouncing and leave a wide smile on your face, you’ve found it! His input is “I’ll Be Right Back” .a serious peak time mover! This cut of the legendary “Roy Ayers - The Golden Rod” supplies the floor with a deep disco vibe. Horns are in full swing with this one and are welcomed with some infectious high piano. This will have your hands in the Ayer within seconds.

This record took a long time to come out, hence being under my previous moniker
I made the lead track two summers ago with a few  good friends:

We recorded all the parts in one session in a beautiful studio in Tuscany. Hearing it takes me back every time and I like to think we managed to capture the moment pretty nicely!

Soulphiction aka Michel Baumann is one of Germany's most respected artists who is also known under the equally successful and iconic alias Jackmate.

A master of both mood and texture, this release showcases the studio wizardry of a true soundsmith. Chunky percussion with shuffling rhythms form the backbone of the grooves, which are fleshed out with intricate melodies and funky basslines that move mind, body and soul.

Like the tracklist of a J Dilla mixtape, this album flows with a purposeful care combined with a storytelling blend of emotions rarely heard in a house music album.

Now I’ve never seen Miami Vice, but I’m thinking if the Japanese had a similar series, this latest offering from Anton Bogomolov (ScruScru), would be perfect as its theme song. Think two detectives, dressed in loud suits roaming around Kyoto fighting crime. From chasing goons down alleyways to following up leads in their flashy convertible, these two are not to be messed with. 

ScruScru hails from Russia and funnily enough he’s created a tune inspired by the warmer months in Kyoto. Most of his work is pieced together through sampling. Be it Soviet symphonic jazz to romantic Russian singers of old, Anton plucks sounds from some fairly unusual places. He tells us that he “tries to structure his music from the get go and not get carried away with improvisation”. 

‘Kyoto Sun’ is a jolly trip. Looped guitar licks and twinkling keys kickstart the track, which are then joined by soaring trumpet and a mysterious Japanese vocal sample (which I’m sure he found via crate digging). The ‘Fuji Editz’ EP (out through our good pals at SlothBoogie), will give you a taste of something a little different. ‘Kyoto Sun’ is like a time warp, you could swear you were sitting in a tiny wooden bar in Japan some 40 years ago, sipping a whisky you’ve never heard of before.
