Pete Tong’s ‘Essential New Tune’ last week, ‘Vermillion’ is the lead single for the forthcoming album from Damian Lazarus & the Ancient Moons.  Channelling the magic of those hazy, sunrise parties Vermillion captures the globe-trotting influences of Damian Lazarus’s new album. 

Transported to glistening new realms, the bubbling deep house rolls beneath the revelatory soul of LA singer-songwriter and guitarist Moses Sumney, is the first of two appearances from the singer on the forthcoming album ‘Message from the Other Side’. Released on 27th April, ‘Vermillion’ lands with an inter-stellar remix package. French techno connoisseur Agoria leads us on a minimal, spaced out trip through shining synths and swift vocal echoes. Acclaimed house maverick and Hot Creations head honcho Jamie Jones has been closing his DJ sets for the last few weeks with his own remix.  Its bouncing, old school house tip bounding beneath bright gospel turns of phrase, approaching near classic status with arms aloft receptions on the dancefloor.  And finally Berlin’s Deniz Kurtel, who pulls her penchant for polyrhythmic percussion to the fore, casting sweet tribal grooves across an original surely destined to become a dancefloor anthem this summer.

“There is nothing that compares to DJing under the stars,” Lazarus explains. “In the night air or being responsible for soundtracking the rising of the sun and I wanted to create an album that reflects these beautiful moments.”

A career spent DJing across the globe was the catalyst for Lazarus’s latest project – Damian Lazarus & The Ancient Moons.  Co-produced by James Ford of Simian Mobile Disco, the new album brings together an assortment of vocalists, collaborators and players from around the world, all taking inspiration from his Lazpod series, Get Lost events and Day Zero festival in Mexico.

With his first ever solo-EP - released on Tal der Verwirrung - Ninze pushes you right into what the label's name already says: a valley of confusion, where a four track journey starts.

Arcadia lets your mind wander to wherever you want to be or picks you up where you already stand, wether it'd be darkgreen meadows or lost  in outer space.

His music is for those who like to listen closely and are willing to discover various noises, where depths are lifted up by heights and sounds are whizzing around in disharmony to magically find themselves back in harmony again.

The special design of the four-tracker is what makes this EP even more an adventure.

A furious first part with a sound collage that is rich in detail and leads to a calmer second half where Ninze (@ninze) reduces the music to the essential without loosing his signature deepness and experimental sound.

After releasing on ℒaut & ℒuise(@lautundluise) and underyourskin records (@underyourskinrecords)with his other projects Ninze & Okaxy (@ninzeokaxy) and WIDE AWAKE (@wide-awake-8) it is safe to say that this solo debut at least proves equal to all previous works, making you dream away for half an hour to eventually wake you up calmly from this very exceptional mindtrip.

From cult local beginnings on the Berlin circuit, Rødhåd is now very much part of the global DJ highway. What initially turned heads was his ability to hold down long and hypnotic sets of loopy, moody house and techno all masterfully mixed in immersive ways. His productions, too, mixed sparse ambient designs with rolling techno grooves on labels like Dystopian and Token, and just this month he put out his debut album, Anxious. It’s a filmic meditation on beautifully bleak and eerie sounds and is another reason we love the man after he turned in a memorable closing set on our UFO stage at this year’s Dekmantel Festival. 

Over a ninety minute live mix recorded recently, he gets more energised with plenty of hurried techno and urgent synth lines all tightly weaving round each other. It’s a high pressure and enchantingly linear set that touches on Millsian space vibes, industrialism and unhinged apocalypse music in one smoothly mixed and sequenced session that will leave you out of breath.
