Throughout his involvement in the heavily revered Skull Disco imprint and the birth of his own Apple Pips label, Laurie ‘Appleblim’ Osborne always seemed to represent his own thing to the fullest. It’s what’s always made him stand out as a character, as a producer and as a DJ – the fact that he simply does things that please him. So when he offered to make us a mixtape ahead of his appearance at the Roska Presents hosted Room One this Friday night, it’s safe to say we were pretty expectant. But what he did was use it as an opportunity to blend together a selection of records he purchased on a recent trip Stateside where he visited The Thing record store in Greenpoint Brooklyn.

Appleblim - NY Crate Digging Mix

We didn't need asking twice if we'd like a new track from @CidRim. The Viennese don of live electronic jamming is practically family now, having done Boiler Room three times: once live and solo, once on the decks with Clonius, and once as part of the Dorian Concept Trio for our stunning In Stereo session (soon to be archived - keep em peeled). This new track on Affine is out on the 23rd, and it reminds us of prime Timbaland, "Hyph Mngo" and full-tilt jazz-fusion all at once, which can't be a bad thing, can it?

Cid Rim "Charge" - Boiler Room Debuts

A healthy dose of Australasian music, you say? For the uninitiated, Electric Wire Hustle are a Kiwi trio that tastefully hopscotch between hip hop, psychedelia and soul. They're two albums deep, with their self-titled LP (2010) and last year's Love Can Prevail already under their belts - both of which stand as CV-worthy, full-bodied dives into the land of off-kilter boom bap and Marvin Gaye-esque crooning.

With Spring 2015 on its way, EWH are preparing to drop the  Love Can Prevail Remix EP . Entries come from across time zones, with Osunlade,  Flako, Eliphino and Computer Jay  on the bill. Yet for us,  Seven Davis Jr.'s rejig of "Look Into The Sky" came up top trumps. Maybe it's the loosey-goosey, soulful house energy that first grabbed us. Or the vaguely Todd Edwards-tinged aftertaste it leaves in the mouth? Either way, it's honey for both the dancefloor late shift and Sunday lounge in equal measure. 

The  Love Can Prevail Remix EP is set to arrive in May to coincide  with their 9 date European tour later this month. Dates include stop-offs in Stockholm, Warsaw (RBMA event), Munich, Berlin and  a night at Oslo in London (April 18).

Electric Wire Hustle "Look Into The Sky (Seven Davis Jr. Remix)" - Boiler Room Debuts

It's no secret that we're big fans of Henrik Schwarz explorations into the classical realm, what with bringing you his Trialogue last year.

When news of an album on Sony Classical, we were obvously keen to hear it. Titled 'Instruments' the LP' main focus is on, you guessed it, the instruments themselves. "​I wanted to see whether this music still means anything when you take away all the synthetic sounds and the beats."​ An interesting approach, considering the more formal and tested approach electronic musicians take when presented with an orchestra.

Henrik Schwarz "Leave My Head Alone Brain Seven" - Boiler Room Debuts

Can we even call it dubstep any more? Both the consistently awesome Innamind label and maverick Turkish producer Emir Ongun aka Gantz have made their mark though 140bpm half-steppers with lung-crushing subs as standard – but both have constantly chipped away at the conventions of the sound, never ever getting locked into formulae. Now with the launch of Innamind's (even more) experimental offshoot, Blacklist, we're fully through the looking glass. Just one listen to Gantz's elastic tempos, sampladelic mischief and slip-sliding sound palette on this track tells you he's no longer tethered to anything but his own warped imagination. We're going to be watching Blacklist with anticipation (and a little trepidation!)

Gantz "Spooky Action From A Distance" - Boiler Room Debuts

Six years after Die Faser, Cio D'Or (finally!) returns with another full-length. all in all, broken down into three separate, interlinking passages, has a truly interesting way with space and sonic design; cinematic flourishes sweep through glitchy interludes into minimal territory, and back again.

"XLIV for Mike" is one of the more straightforward cuts, but with synthetic effects that sound like Radiophonic Workshop oscillations and a zipper scratching on plastic, it's still a far cry from the conventional, while still carrying enough heft to keep bodies rooted to the 'floor.

The Agoria remix of 'Restless' is taken from 'Restless' single package - released on Mute on 9 October. Restless is the first single from New Order's upcoming album, Music Complete out September 25th on Mute.
