Here we are with our 150th session! Wow, big ups to everyone who tuned in live. We had so many listeners that Kbeach's server's were overloaded. We are so happy that this talented & vibrant woman SOSUPERSAM finally came through the studio. It's been a long time coming and we're happy that you finally get a feel for who she is musically and as a person. Wasn't quite sure what she was gonna play for us, but she showed a great diversity and really brought us back to a place that was very much needed towards the end of her set. She's even cooler as a person. Being humble and driven will always get you far. Joe Kay really brought out a diverse selection of music. If you missed the live broadcast then you missed out on an exclusive 25+ minute session that went past our 3rd hour and that only covered unreleased exclusives from our forthcoming catalog. On an afternoon like this, when it’s sunny and you’re utterly spent from a weekend, it’s easy to fumble over words, spending far too long trying to choose the best way to put something. But sometimes serendipity has an even more poignant way of putting it and well, describing Remarc’s music is very much like the affected sound-bite introduction to Remarc’s FABRICLIVE x Planet Mu Mix says: “Remarc: original junglist badboy sound”. 

For our purpose today, it’s undoubtedly easier to talk about Planet Mu’s involvement in Remarc’s career, considering that the jungle pioneer and respected master of the amen drum break will be appearing in the Mu hosted Room Two on Friday 20th June. But the fact is, they first started working together reissuing Remarc’s earlier material on the Sound Murderer album, so you can’t really even try and avoid it. That said, the first tune of his that a lot of people latched onto and recognised was ‘Ricky’, a track released in 1993 on his own Dollar label…

As you can hear, the template for a cataclysm of such bounding bass lines and scattershot drum programming that personify jungle music was starting to be interpreted by Remarc in a pretty violent way. Not violent because of the perceived aggression or the tortured “RICKY!” screech, it’s more his approach to layering, to cutting and pasting and micro-editing the drum work that becomes so shocking or confrontational. That sense of an aural threat translated into track titles like ‘R.I.P’, ‘Single Finga Killa’, ‘Stick Em Up’ and ‘Sound Murderer’ which was extrapolated by Mu as the perfect phrase to encapsulate a collection of his early music. 

Sharing a lot of the energy and complexity of the Planet Mu roster’s output, Remarc’s brazen and broken brew of beats and breaks found the perfect kinship with the label. Being just as manic and as layered as a lot of the music they're known for, it makes complete sense that the label would call upon Remarc to represent jungle to the fullest and appear on a bill with Luke Vibert, Neil Landstrumm, Ital and Ital Tek a week on Friday.

Since emerging in 2003, UK man Claro Intelecto has pursued the deeper side of techno, and now makes his Delsin debut with a 3 track EP entitled Second Blood, which precedes the release of his full length album on the same label in march 2012.

With a discography which includes a number of 12”s, EPs and full lengths on labels like Boomkat's own Modern Love as well as Ai Records and others, Manchester man Mark Stewart is known for dropping bomb after bomb, with these new efforts being no different. 

First up, the title track 'Second Blood' is a lazy, scuffed and romantic sounding deep dub cut that lurches from one beat to the next with a lazy smile and soft eyes. Plenty of echo and reverb have it drifting off into the distance as warm pads and rising strings add subtle tension.

Another lazy roller but this time with brighter melodic flashes, next effort 'Heart' is just as lateral, dubwise and soothing as the title track, melting your mind into a dreamy state of hypnosis before b2 'Voyeurism' lifts you out of your trance with a firmer kick drum, more cutting claps and groove that bounces a little more than it rolls. Some taught acid notes appear eventually, rounding off a cerebral, dead of night EP made as much for home listening as it is gentle Sunday afternoon comedowns. Essential stuff.
