Etapp Kyle [ Klockworks / Prologue ] Ukraine

Sprint from a position of stay-at-home audiophile to a status of hero at decks, attracting attention of nightclubbers, took only a few months for Etapp Kyle. Enlisting friends’ support and interest from Russia’s legendary techno club ARMA17, the artist made his first appearance in Moscow a couple of years ago. Now it’s clear that he did it right – subsequent visits to Moscow gave no reasons for doubts about his competence, but also showed how rapidly the young resident of Western Ukraine was developing.
Today Etapp Kyle is on threshold of a new period of creative activity in a company of notable players of global techno scene. Results of his studio work receive serious interest from truly remarkable labels. Thus, in 2013 one of his tracks appears at minMAX compilation by Richie Hawtin's M_nus, and right away his debut 4 track vinyl gets released by the famous Ben Klock's Klockworks. His music receives strong support from the most important players of the scene, channeled through soundsystems of techno festivals worldwide.
Performing in front of a dancefloor the most sophisticated combinations, he invites to check the depths of a piercing cold canyon, then fleetingly carrying to a textural and almost tangible landscape of a forest at night, with its inherent softness and smooth motion of warm air. Love to dynamic, dark sound finds its expression in mixing with soft melodies, and powerful groove in his music competes with transparent, disembodied imprints of illusory atmosphere.ny people out there dedicating themselves to this kind of music.

We don’t often invite people to run the FACT Mix gauntlet more than once – but if anyone gets to bend the rules, it’s Klock.

The Berlin titan last graced these parts back in 2009, filing a muscular FACT Mix entirely in keeping with his reputation as Berghain’s bosher-in-chief. The last five years have seen him consolidate his reputation as a standard bearer of refined, take-no-prisoners techno; his eight-hour-plus sets continue to shake Berghain’s foundations, and, although his output has slowed substantially, he’s still found time to knock out the occasional release on Ostgut Ton. His Klockworks label continues to tick along, too - new releases from fellow FACT mixer Trevino and Etapp Kyle are imminent, plus, if a forthcoming stint of “studio time” comes good, potentially more new music from Klock himself.

Those expecting pulverising 4×4 might be surprised by Klock’s sophomore FACT mix – a “deeper, dreamy” collection, bookended by two vintage ambient tracks and shot through with wonder. Unreleased Klockworks material features, as do cuts from the likes of Function, Ben Sims, Surgeon, Orgue Electronique and Lucy. The mix is a studio-recorded affair – something Klock sees as a very different kettle of fish to playing out: “Club mixes are obviously more spontaneous and capture the vibe of a specific night, while working in the studio offers other possibilities like re-editing tracks and layering tunes more precisely, which I’ve done a lot of that here.” Set your watches…

Diplo & Friends BBCR1XTRA: January 17th

In 2011 a clip art image of a faceless orange announced the arrival of SUED with a simple "Hello". The friendly looking fruit was communicating the landing of a label run by regular Dynamo Dreesen collaborator SVN, and SW. Following a debut release so good it seems anyone owning a copy isn't willing to part with it, the music of SUED has found itself orbiting a world known to the likes of Sex Tags, Acido and Atelier Records. Of the now many unassuming untitled 12"s the humble operation has released, the first was a split SVN and SW. EP, and between them the two delivered Krautrock, Cluster-like arpeggios, some of the best piano chords used in a house track the Juno Plus editorial can say they've heard, originally gritty basslines and a loose cut of teasing tribal percussion that morphs into something completely tropical just when you think you've heard it all.

At nine-records-old, SUED proffers a simple visual aesthetic, while musically the label's sound is defined by the faded water colour tones of the duo's authentic music making abilities, with SVN atmospheric collaboration with Club No-No from last year a catalogue highlight. Of the solo records to appear on SUED, two have been produced by SW., including one of the label's two titled records Reminder Part Two. But unlike SVN, who's appeared on Kontra-Musik, Sotofett's Wania, Snorre Magnar Solberg's freshly cast Club No-No, and respectively on Acido and Atelier as Dresvn and Tase, the sole productions of SW. have always remained on SUED.

Remixes have slowly started popping up from SW. however, with his reworks beginning to appearing on Kimochi, the stencil-sprayed imprint run by Chicago's Area, aka m50, and Los Angeles 303 addicts Acid Test. For his Juno Plus podcast SW. delivers 90 minutes worth of warm, rugged and unidentified house and techno with a touch of low fidelity that's not dependant on distortion for effect. And should you be a follower of those guys over at Trushmix, we can't can't recommend this mix enough.

When you have been running a label as long as we have, it occasionally happens that you have releases up the pipeline which take ages to be released. The remix EP for Patrick Chardronnet’s 2013 hit "All I Got“ is such a case. Already planned for more than a year ago, it has taken this long to be ready for release. But, as good things sometimes simply need time, we think it was well worth the wait and are now more than happy with the result: Four remixes in total, three for "All I Got“ and one for "Random Beauty“, make the release complete, now.

We kick off with the Audiofy Hook Remix, a characteristic interpretation for the super simpatico and world-traveling DJ-duo and long-time friends of Connaisseur. Super tripping, massively grooving and big in love of details. Thank you boys!

Next up is man of the moment Musumeci. His take on "All I Got“ is a super catchy pearl in his own distinctive arp-driven style with touching and tender melodies. A tune for your heart and soul which we are sure will be a regular in many sets in the next months.
The third and last version of "All I Got“ is by German rising star Schlepp Geist, who just had a strong open air track with "Tura“ on our summer V.A. “BBQ Techno 5”. His interpretation, screaming "RAVE ALERT", will destroy dance foors. Massive alarm sounds and a demanding groove make this tune a peaktime guarantor.

The fourth and last track is a remix for "Random Beauty“, the timeless b-side of the original release, which we consider one of the best tracks Patrick Chardronnet has ever have made. Responsible for the remix here is Anthony Middleton, one half of Audiofy and the amazing US act Dance Spirit, well known for their releases on Audiofy’s sublime Supernature label.Their remix is a pure trip taking you far away. Their sensitive dealing with the parts shows their big respect towards the original work. A special track for a special moment.

Two of the Black Madonna's most sought after early tracks return to circulation alongside one burning new jam on Goodbye To All This, the latest release from Stripped & Chewed. 

Drawn from the Chicago label's 2012 compilation Livin' For The City EP, the piano dappled joy of "Exodus" luxuriates across side A, spreading the good word with a pounding beat. "We Don't Need No Music (Thank You, Rahaan)" from SCRS004 takes another whirl around the dancefloor, its pinwheeling horns and infectious vocals pulling even wallflowers into the fray. And in case two remastered sure-shots aren't enough, the brand new "Who Do You Need" closes the record with a soulful thwack: half uplifting house, half blistering techno -- all peak-time fodder.
