Kevin Over strikes back on Noir Music after the very popular “Jodye” and “Jus A” from his 2 recent Eps on the label. We changed the dynamics a little and included remixes of previously released tracks alongside the brand new tracks from Kevin Over.
And well..... here's another incredible EP from the German producer and now with remixes of “Jack Back” by Marc DePulse and “When Anger grows” by Frag Maddin.
No need for all the words.... The music speaks for itself.

Mauricio Barembuem AKA Barem is the DJ and producer from Buenos Aries who has produced music for such esteemed label’s as Richie Hawtin’s M-nus, and the Philadelphia based label, Foundsound.  And he is out guest on this week’s Cadenza Music Source to Cycle.

Since the mid-2000s, Barem has been crafting out unique and textured techno and house music, and has been performing in clubs across the globe on a regular basis.  With forthcoming shows in Switzerland, Austria and London (playing with our own Valentino Kanzyani on April 18th), it’s great that he could take time out to put together these two mixes for us.

Barem has a new EP coming out on Rhythm Cult inon 03.03.15 (Vinyl) and 09.03.15 (Digital) so look out for that!

The further you look into “TB Arthur” the murkier it all becomes. Rather like the story of the mysterious “Lewis” in a very different area of music, it all seems a bit too perfect. The over-amped analogue machines, the extraordinary psychedelic qualities of the music, the stories of dusty warehouses and hints of distant raves, the messages in run-out grooves like secret messages from times past: it’s all so perfectly designed to press the buttons of techno vinyl fetishists it can’t be real. Can it?

Our contacts at Hardwax are not the most communicative – like Hardwax ever has been, right? But the one thing they have been absolutely emphatic about is that despite forum chatter, this is not some secret project for Adam X, or Shed, or anyone else. To be precise: “TB Arthur is TB Arthur and will remain so despite the speculations”.

Does it matter, anyway? Well not right now, it doesn’t. For now – and for the eternal now of the dancefloor – what we have are three 12”s of really outstanding tripped-out machine funk that serve their purpose equally well whether they were made in 1995 or 2015, and whether they were made for fun, for a joke or as an expression of drug psychosis. And there’s the promise of more to come, too. Perhaps it will turn out that there really is a dark and tragic tale behind them, perhaps there’s a big game going on, or perhaps the background will remain shrouded in mystery. But for now, what we’re left with is music that we have to judge entirely without prejudice, and which is good enough to more than justify any cloak-and-dagger shenanigans.

Upfront 016: T.B. Arthur

Don yer fleeces, 90s electronica is back! Well, Björk is at least. And so too is Simon Lovejoy, one of her very earliest producers, alongside old recording partner Frankie Valentine on a reissue comp rounding up some choice cuts from their joint catalogue. "Whisper" hasn't seen the light of day in over twenty years, but truthfully it could have come down the pipeline at any point since. The familiar mix of elliptical drums, house-y piano stabs and all manner of colourful squiggles will always find a happy home. Valentine and Lovejoy, as well as variously appearing on legendary outlets Distance and Balance, also ran a short-lived label called Kooky Grooves – which just about says it all, really. 

Tokyo Offshore Project "Whisper" - Boiler Room Debuts

We know next to nothing about this band, other than they're from Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo. You might even have guessed that from the distorted thumb pianos which are highly redolent of Kinshasa's most famous recent export, Konono No.1 - but Mbongwana Star (Mbongwana means "change", apparently) are a very different proposition. There's some very strange dubwise production, courtesy of Parisian and sometime Tony Allen collaborator Doctor L, some eerie postpunk-sounding guitar work, and an altogether unique vibe. They're coming to Europe in April and May and there'll be an album on World Circuit around then too. We will be paying close attention.

Vallis Alps - Thru

Oh, what a year Glenn Astro had last year. Appearances on DJ Kicks (Brandt Brauer Frick) and Brownswood, umpteen remixes, and a string of beautifully-crafted EPs perforated 2014. This year is set to eclipse that. Buddying up with Max Graef, his new imprint Money $ex Records took flight in January and sold out pronto. Good luck finding a version on Discogs.  A debut longplayer on Tartelet Records - quickly becoming an office favourite - is on its way this spring too.

In between these comes the Hologram EP, two years after his first release on WotNot. "User’s Guide To" is the ultimate tutorial in dusty house, with rolling layers of percussion over smooth synth chords. All-in-all a great record to kick off a year that will see new records from K15, Kab Driver, Alphabets Heaven, and some new faces on WotNot.

Uto Karem - Utopolys Radio 039 (March 2015)

Coming off one hell of a 2014 (capped by an Objekt track for the ages) Leisure System are at it again, strengthening Anglo-Germanic ties even faster than our dear leader can erode them. JoeFarr is the man stepping up, armed with a forceful four-tracker, with this cut a bodyblow of a B1. It's chock full of lacerating scrapes, hammer blows and the kind of frenetic energy that brings to mind a beaker of poorly-mixed corrosive chemicals...or a Crash Bandicoot SFX soundboard. There's even an unlikely divergence into prettiness around the halfway mark. "Standard Issue"? Anything but.

Mr Farr will touch down for his first Berghain bow this Friday, having made his inaugural Boiler Room appearance last month, where he let "Standard Issue" loose to the world, resplendent in a Leisure System tee no less. Isn't it nice when things join up?

                  The track came out in January 08 on Future Classic, backed up with a Soultourist remix of "You're Out or In?". In other words, it's a Drumpoet release in disguise. The virus keeps spreading ;-)
                  Concerning my remix, I wanted something with more "ooomph" than my previous tracks...judge it for yourself, but I think this one is on a rave tip!

It’s been four years since my last own EP on Stockholm LTD.
The main reason for this is that I have been surrounded by music that has inspired
me much more than my own.

This EP was written and produced with strict narrow frames and a huge amount
of frustration. I was tired of waiting for the inspiration to kick in, then suddenly it
appeared with a strength that I haven’t felt for long time. I’m now curious for more.

While sketching the title track, ’Wyatt Arp’, I couldn’t get Detroit legend, Terrence
Dixon, out of my mind. Terrence is a long time hero of mine, and an artist that always
stays on the true side of what we do while most of us occasionally leave our paths.

Twin Turbo presents the debut release from Pilo, featuring three tracks to destroy whatever's left of 2012's dancefloors.

It's always a source of pride for the label to discover a new artist and shove him out onto the world stage to sink or swim into the playlists of all the huge names who pay rapt attention to everything we do. We were introduced to Pilo through Harvard Bass, who suggested his fellow Californian for remix duties on his own recent Twin Turbo release. Now, we're pleased to present Pilo's proper debut, the work of yet another huge young talent grinding it out for nu-techno supremacy.

"Ubstraktion (Jazz Yo Self Mix)" melds rave diva vox, an infectious siren hook, and high-BPM lysergic techno, leaving you wonder what the less jazzy mix could possibly sound like. Meanwhile, "Forte Inductance" strips away the nonsense to genuine "stripped-down, no-nonsense" levels, relying on a relentless kick, overdriven toms, and a melting MC vocal to  get the job done. Finally, "Trippin" gets you trippin' so hard that the term "after-hours warehouse banger-monster" seems to lose all meaning, before gaining way too much meaning.

Twin Turbo - closing out the year with new discoveries, new digital bombs, and new definitions of peak-time dominance. We'll see you in 2013 with music that reflects our world's inevitable Mad Max, dancing-in-the-breadline reality.
