Barnt is a producer and a DJ who is hard to place – one minute he’s making avant garde, experimental sounds on his co founded label Magazine, the next he’s making peak time trance on Kompakt. Perhaps this is what makes him so exciting, you never quite know what you are going to get.

Earlier this year Kompakt announced the release of a superb EP which had already been heard doing the rounds in the clubs, a big room trance inspired club track which had been destroying dancefloors all over. Of course it was Barnt.

The release was his first new material for several years, the pandemic has offered Barnt the time to reflect on his own direction and from the sounds of it left him longing for the nostalgia and big room sounds he grew up on in the 90’s.

The EP comes off the back of recent releases on the likes of Mule Musiq, Comeme, Hinge Finger and Holgen. However, it made perfect sense that his latest should feature on none other than the German powerhouse that is Kompakt.

We were delighted when Barnt agreed to record this mix for us, as one of our own personal favourites we can’t help but think that he’s done a wicked job.

Massimiliano Pagliara's current-yet-classic style can best be described as an eclectic mix of house, disco, electro and techno. The Berghain / Panorama Bar resident runs his own label Funnuvojere Records and releases on labels such as Live At Robert Johnson, Ostgut Ton, and Permanent Vacation. Massimiliano delivered an outstanding remix for DC Salas' 'Time Well Spent' that was released on TAU last week bit.ly/Tau032 – which is also included in this brand new dj mix for our TAU Cast series. @massimilianopagliara

This is a long-overdue homage to one of the best house labels ever conceived. At only ten releases long, and almost entirely created by both The Timewriter and Terry Lee Brown Jr., Driftwood hit the mark every single time with some of the smoothest deep house around. 

It took me quite a while to complete the series, not to mention a good amount of money, but the hunt was worth every penny. I've owned the entire series for about six years now, but just now am finally getting around to compiling a mix of only driftwood tracks. 

Total respect goes to the Driftwood label, Jean F. Cochois AKA The Timewriter, Norman Feller AKA Terry Lee Brown Jr., Hakan Lidbo, Robi Uppin, and Jonathan Axelsson. Special thanks goes to my friend Travis Wolf for originally pointing this label out to me back in 2002 and for kicking off an obsessed passion for this Imprint.
