"Pavlovabar was one of the most memorable and best gigs of my life! I hadn't been out much in Sydney before so wasn't 100% sure what to expect, but I'd heard from a few friends that Pavs was the spot. I was super excited to be given the trust and freedom to play all night long, I really do love to play long sets with the time to explore a wide range of genres and vibes throughout the night. To my surprise people started showing up quite early and the place was already packed around 1am! The crowd was a beautiful and colourful mix of people from all ages and backgrounds! It was so nice to see. I remember that night it was bloody hot and the aircon wasn't working so people were getting completely naked. The heat kind of added to the mania and people were really pushing me to play harder and crazier. I really loved the give and take of energy and by the end I felt we had all been through something together. 

This mix is a lot more chill than what I played that night, but I do remember playing a lot of Australian stuff. Things from Hymns, Reptant, Logic1000 and others so I tried to play as many Australian and especially Sydney artists as I could. Thanks for having me, hope you enjoy :) " - @katemiller

I was thrilled to be invited by Azu Tiwaline, who I am a huge fan of. I definitely had her in mind while recording this mix, which includes a few tracks from beloved friends, as well as an upcoming track from my label by the enormously talented Tibia. “Well, I’ve been travelling a lot. Italy, the UK and Japan were my highlights. More holidays than work so I got lucky. Playing music for people I would never ever dare to call ‘work’ anyways. Besides I set up my new studio above Renate club here in Berlin. Maybe this was a bit of work then? Building absorbers, renovating and stuff to make the room sound good, you know. So I’m looking forward to next winter season where I should be spending a lot time inside by then. Wait, no heating installed yet. Damn.

The mix was recorded at my Neukölln apartment. I was using the Standard setup: My beloved 10 year old Rane Empath Rotary Mixer, a bunch of CDJs as well as the classic Technics 1210. Another amp from the 80s and one day I got some older Canton speakers. Music all went into the tascam recorder. So that is that.

The idea of a dj mix, that is still a tough one. After thinking about it for months (or seconds for that matter) I just told myself ‘it’s basically one hour of dance music’ … right? So I went through my digital and analog shelves and went for a selection of music I like to play and (rarely but it happens) dance to these days. A lot of upcoming stuff I made myself plus some soon-to-be-released music and some arpy trance classic back from 1993 as a bonus. So yeah a bit of everything, including sloppy mixes. I tried hard not to get you bored. Maybe we should call this mix ‘The Idea Of A Trance Part 7’?”

“What comes after travelling? Right on, travelling. After some more vacational days I’ll have the honour to play some shows around including Amsterdam and finally Robert Johnson, which is my definition of a club ever since. And god. I love to DJ. The motivation gets better each and every year. No kidding. On the producer side of things I have 2 more EPs coming your way early fall. Both on my own labels ‘Frank Music’ and ‘Fine’. One of them is called “Giovanni Frizzante” and it does what it says on the tin. Italo time. Before you ask – yeah you will actually hear it in the mix. Also a bit proud that Mr. Prins Thomas provided another Diskomiks for us.”

It was local word of mouth that elevated Australian @katemiller from local to international notoriety. Her ability to fluidly jump genres and eras always leaves dance floors in a spin, and after emerging in Melbourne she followed the music to Berlin when she eventually became resident at the Oscillate party at ://about blank. Those sets allowed her the freedom to explore and pick up a fan base, and now she is someone who tells long and winding stories, with selections and feelings that define her sets more than tempo or technicality.

The 90 minute session Kate lays down for us is perfectly warm and rhythmic. It's united by rubbery kicks and deep, warm sub bass, but ever changing kick patterns and synths that range from absorbing and ambient to dark and paranoid always keep things moving. It is the sound of a DJ who is always in control, a masterclass in tension and release that means you're always on the edge, excited for what is to come.

Since 2000 Paul Brtschitsch released three albums under his own name on the Frisbee label to critical acclaim („Surftronic“, „Venex“ and „Memory“). He always followed the concept of creating an album like a DJ set – soft build up, hard middle, and consolable ending – without
forgetting to explore never heard sonic spaces. This very concept also applies to Paul ‘s live sets. When doing so, Brtschitsch does not rely on laptops and software. His set up is much more complex, resulting in the fact that he really is playing live and not triggering loops or arranging his studio material in front of a crowd. His sets last for one and a half to two hours and are always spontaneously crafted according to crowd and atmosphere.
