Leap Year Shoobs At Noni's

For those of you not yet acquainted with Quincy Vidal, now's the time. The Brooklyn duo comprises of Le'Asha Julius and Caleb Eberhardt (CE), who combine their vocal, MCing and production skills in their soulful, thought-provoking and truly original creations. "No style is more present than the singular, alive and confident voices of Quincy Vidal. Day-in-the-life odysseys through a fiercely modern take on Golden Age hip hop" – still stands as the most succinct description of QV's music.

Chi'ren is the latest project emanating from New York's notorious two-piece. With production credits split between CE and Space People, the EP's seven tracks unearth musical memories from the nineties, through to the noughties and tens. Le'Asha and Caleb's anecdotal lyrics touch on love, anger, sex, betrayal, and – along with the wolf boy artwork – the loss of childhood innocence. A theme that resonates deeply coming from two young-blood virtuosos of NYC hip hop, and it doesn't even end there. Styles Upon Styles is releasing an early download of the EP alongside a limited edition hoodie which features the cover art. A portion of the proceeds will then be donated to Food Bank NYC.

Quincy Vidal's Chi'ren will be available on all digital music stores come April Fool's Day.

"This mix is linked to my inspiration from footwork music. It’s really romantic, but at the same time powerful and primitive images like hyper-ancient civilizations spring to mind whenever I listen to it. I also picked out a few of my all time, little-know favourite songs from my early age and added them at the end. Both simply express how I enjoy music and play with sounds.

Most of the tracks are mine: including ones featuring Taiwanese producer/singer Meuko Meuko and Taigen from Bo Ningen, which will be on my upcoming LP from Orange Milk. The last two tracks are my favourite Japanese bands Kuuki Kodan and Nina. The very last one is from my old playmate, singer songwriter Osaki Go.

UK music of the early 2010s was heavily dominated by a select modicum of names – of which Wayne Goodlitt (also known as Roska) was intrinsically one. Collaborating with the likes of Swindle and Funtcase, a long-running residency with and releases on Rinse, as well as Hotflush (whose 2011 label showcase for BR incidentally featured Roska on the bill), Numbers and Tectonic all staked Roska's claim in the rapidly shifting food chain of British dance and bass music.

Since 2009, Roska's own Kicks & Snares imprint has been housing his prolific discography as well as various other trustee, paving the way in both old and new UK Funky-based music, as well as beyond. Though, much like his own music, genres are becoming less of a thing in dance music. If anything, variety of output is equally as authentic as orthodoxy to one given genre. Man like Roska is a true testament to the former. RKS now reopens shop with Roska's new Askin 4 It EP. All six cuts pay homage to the dance music sound that is quintessentially British. Our highlight "Make Way" whirs underneath with sub-levels bass, permeated by a heavily percussive rhythm throughout that demands to be danced to. All with that unmistakeable "Roska" vocal ident taking us way back. A welcome return to a seasoned pro of UK dance music.

Roska "Make Way" - Boiler Room Debuts

Placed firmly at Delsin's core is Conforce – an artist praised for his subtle attention-to detail as well as his broad versatility, with an extensive back catalogue that shows he's in it for the long haul. Originally from Terschelling in Holland, Conforce returns to familiar native turf with his latest venture on Delsin, North to South -­ Part 1. First up on the A-side and setting the tone for the whole release is "Dark Days". Despite slightly obscure undertones found in both the music as well as its title, the track opens North to South's first chapter in a lively, uptempo manner. Propulsive drums carry us through the track, with thrice-manipulated synths piercing through and fading out of the texture. This is modern-day techno programmed for the dancefloor, at its finest.
