We love a release with nice conceptual integrity, like this one from Local Action. Hathersage/Hull/Manchester/San Fransisco producer Finn is a sample collagist of the finest kind (and regular supplier of Boxed anthems), so it made sense to give his work a taste of its own medicine by getting DJ Q, Samename,Fallow and Adelaide's finest, Strict Face simply chop up and re-edit the original tracks rather than remix it from stems. This one's a strangely churchy meeting of alien-angel vocals, R&B Spanish guitar and grimey lurches, and the rest of the EP - out next week - is just as good too.

The influence of his newfound home is crystalline clear considering the artists selected to rework "Pilgrim" - one of the highlights of Hard Believer. Both Paula Temple and Brandt Brauer Frick submit reworks, but it's BBF that come out trumps in this instance.

Our recent excursion to Russia - as part of the Stay True series with Ballantine’s Scotch Whiskey - proved bountiful for a number of reasons. Not only because it jammed some of the nation's finest boom bap reps together with a hand-picked selection of America's similarly-inclined elite. But also because it was a tour engulfed in genuine, raucous energy. Relationships were formed and a genuine companionship emerged between the heads involved.
 
 So the story goes that DJ Premier spent a few days in the studio alongside St. Petersburg's BMB Spacekid and one half of LA-based funksters NxWorries, Anderson .Paak. The result of their combined wizardry is "Til It's Done" - a headnodding joyride through electro-funk characterised by a hip-hop drum kit underbelly and topped by Anderson's ever-capable vocal acrobatics.
