This summer Anja Schneider and mobilee will make a splash in Ibiza with a free, intimate bi-weekly pool party residency at Santos Coast Club. With six shows on the schedule, 2014 will be the break-through summer for mobilee's beloved pool parties series. The opening kicks off on Monday, July 14th and the residency pool series will follow every second Monday starting at 2pm with September 22nd marking the date of the closing party.

Located beyond Neptune's orbit is the dwarf planet Haumea, the inspiration behind Rødhåd’s second release for Token. It follows his Spomeniks 12” from last year which the Berliner used to debut on the Belgian label, the only other imprint he’s released with other than his own Dystopian Records. Over the past three years Rødhåd’s reputation has sky-rocketed, not only as an accomplished producer with five releases to his name, but as a big room DJ whose formidable presence behind the decks demands as much respect as DVS1 and German big guns Dettmann and Klock.

No longer a newcomer to the scene, Rødhåd is now a respected staple of European techno and his three-track Haumea single features an alternative Dirt version of the title-track mixed by the Dystopian co-founder, and a second remix by Token mainstay Ø [Phase]. Rødhåd’s return to Token provides the label with their penultimate record before the unveiling of their landmark 50th release, Aphelion, a CD and triple vinyl showcase of new and exclusive material from label regulars and like-minded artists whom Token founder Kr!z specifically commissioned for the deluxe release.

Rødhåd’s return succeeds Surgeon’s official debut on Token earlier this month with his Fixed Action Pattern 12”, which first bore news of the Aphelion compilation, and here Rødhåd provides a linear alternative to the distorted, industrial dub of Anthony Child’s Token missive. “Haumea” is a bleepy production that straddles the divide between the Detroit techno of Jeff Mills and newer European interpretations mixed with coarse hi-hats that cut straight through the mix. The B-side’s Dirt version provides a minimal alternative which strips the original’s murky low end, and as a result emphasis falls on lucid drum machine programming which exhume alien bleeps from the deep. For some extra heat Ø [Phase] brings the booming sound of his Frames Of Reference LP to Haumea with a chugging remake courteously titled ‘Satellite remix’ complimenting the theme of this spacey record.

With such an impeccable track record for his original productions, any news of an impending Josh Wink release is usually met with a familiar mix of excitement and trepidation. When the bar is perpetually raised to such lofty heights, what can one man do to keep such momentum going? 

The answer, naturally, is to slam the listener with the kinetic intensity of a full on jackhammer acid assault, and that’s exactly what ‘I’m Talking To You’ does. A swelling TB 303 motif contorts and swims around a vocal snippet, distorted and chopped to mind-bending effect in classic Wink style. Make no mistakes, the Philly godfather still reigns supreme; Wink is here, and he's talking to you. 

The release also features a (subjectively) more subdued ‘Groove’ mix, and a signature ‘TalkApella’ tool for DJ sets.

Philadelphia's PJ Geissinger aka Starkey is best known for his ass-kicking “street bass” fusions – but anyone who's followed his decade-long career will know he has a penchant for enormously deep and subtle soundscapes. Which is why we're excited about the launch of his new non-club music NOREMIXES label, and its first release by another established producer under a new alias. The seven-track Golden Ratio Syrup EP is, apparently, “a protracted piece of programmatic music inspired by dreams of the coast, with evocations of the tide, clifftop flora, ice cream and dead revolutionaries,” and 'A Screaming Comes Across the Sky' is its climactic moment. Transfigured Time is a new Tbilisi/Paris based record label set up by childhood friends Gacha, Ash and Serga. Their debut release takes the form of a compilation, uniting the talents of Akwaaba (who's rolling 'Bantu' track is streamed here), Bakradze & HVL.

St Petersburg's bubbling scene was thrust into HD light when we made our first outing there back in October; and Roots United's Nocow set was truly the pick of the local litter. RUR001, the crew's inaugural physical release (out soon!), is a belting Nocow six-tracker, thrumming with insistent energy and a deep, seesawing lead. "Ayenward" drew various comparisons at BR HQ to Gene Farris, D. Tiffany and even the mighty Robert Hood. Watch his name magnify.

The Astral Black sect joined us last November for a Boiler Room affair immersed in psychotropic visuals and well-measured track selection. Now that the 2014 chapter has closed, label head Jon Phonics is honing the crosshairs on the year ahead.
It begins with an eight track project from 20-year old Edinburgh raised, Glasgow based beatsmith Dressin Red. The youngun has already earned radio support from the likes of LuckyMe and Donky Pitch, and Head/Body continues on a solid trajectory. Separated into two sections - four tracks for the introspective mind, and four others for the dancefloor - it’s “Viennetta” that has piqued our interest the most.
Maybe its the fact that the introduction sounds like the Rugrats theme from some eerie, parallel universe. Or the mish-mash of Eski and otherworldly hip-hop that informed our choice. Either way, it's blissful stuff and a determined first stomp into the next twelve months.
