This week we welcome Eora local legend - Andrew Wowk. Andrew Wowk is a DJ, producer, radio host, promoter, and writer who has been active in the Eroa (Sydney) electronic music scene for over fifteen years. First introduced to dance music culture through work experience at community radio station Rhythm FM at age 16, Andrew exudes a passion for and knowledge of music that is the result of years of experience.
As a DJ, Andrew has earned a reputation for refined technical skills and eclectic track selection. His tastes run the gamut of techno, house, breakbeat, drum & bass and jungle, electro, and leftfield electronica. But even with such a wide range of music at his disposal, he finds ways to combine these numerous sounds into a cohesive whole. Often focused more on telling a story or creating a particular feeling with his sets, he regularly moves fluidly across stylistic boundaries, preferring to find other similarities between tracks than just their genre. 

Outside of club DJing, Andrew also produces music under the alias End User License Agreement, which has been released on international labels such as Biotech Recordings and Baroque Recordings, and Australian labels such as Extra Spicy, Communication Records, Monarch Recordings, and Late Night Music.

The bi-monthly episodes explore themes of identity, migration and music creation through hour-long interviews curated and moderated by Chloe Lula.

On the third episode of Freedom to Create, Chloe Lula interviews Ukrainian-American artist Alinka. The producer and DJ—who is currently living in Berlin—immigrated to the US in the late ‘80s with her family, who lived as Jewish refugees in Chicago. Alinka eventually became a resident at Smartbar and began collaborating with Hercules and Love Affair’s Shaun J Wright, with whom she started the Twirl parties and label. Alinka has released on labels like Rekids, Crosstown Rebels, Need Want, Permanent Vacation, Harry Romero’s Bambossa Records and her newly launched second imprint Fantasy Life. She’s a regular DJ at Berghain. She and Chloe discuss the war in Ukraine, her experience growing up far afield from her roots and the healing power of music in times of personal and collective crisis.
