Echoes

The beginning of a long training, where control no longer feels imposed, but natural. ACT I marks the point of entry: the moment the human animal begins to be shaped. Not through chains, but through instruction; not through force, but through agreement. The beginning of the new era from these past months of development to get to this its only time to slip into the full spectrums? ACT I does not accuse. It observes.

We were asked to record a short mix for our brothers from Polyfon Records for their broadcast on Erfurt's Radio F.R.E.I. We decided to go for Funk and Boogie from Brazil, Libya, Belgium, France, Turkey and the US. We hope you enjoy this very short mix!

To celebrate the 60th anniversary of Motown, the iconic record label launched in 1959 in Detroit, Michigan by Berry Gordy Jr., Carhartt WIP will release a thirteen-piece capsule collection in the coming weeks. The collaboration honors a label that reshaped the sound of American pop music, diversifying its airwaves in the process. 

To mark the collection launch, we reached out to Detroit native Kenny Dixon Jr. aka Moodymann and asked him to prepare a strictly Motown music Carhartt WIP Radio show, that displays his personal love for the label.
 
As Moodymann is not man for hasty reactions, he delivered a detailed mix featuring rare b-sides, interviews and live recordings by Motown artists like Marvin Gaye, Diana Ross & The Supremes, Steve Wonder, Kem and Dazz Band. Asked about his very own feelings towards his mix, Kenny Dixon Jr. simply says: “No matter where I‘m standing it’s good to hear home sometimes. These songs are woven into the soundtrack of my own personal movie.”  There is nothing more to add, only: enjoy the ride!
