Boiler Room Debuts

Bradley Zero's swashbuckling efforts with Rhythm Section continue to induce pleasure across the office and beyond. His regular soirees at Canavans Pool Hall are typified by the type of loose, one-love community ethos that many club nights would starve for; red neon lit, set time-less and buoyed by an all-encompassing music policy. Naysayers need only check Edd Fisher this Saturday in Peckham. On top of that, the RS discography stockpile is quickly blossoming into a well-nurtured settling for talent; undeterred by genre or location, and instead driven by an unwavering feel good factor. There's already been woozy, drifting deep house from Melbourne's Prequel and the velvety hook up with Vancouver's Mood Hut rep Local Artist to digest. Just six releases in, and the air miles have definitely been totting up.

As the title suggests, RS007 resides a bit closer to home than previous entries. Good Morning Peckham is Henry Wu's (@wuesli) ode to his local area, built around his now recognised style of off-kilter, slacker house. "Dubplate Special" is a special lecture in groove; a marriage between succulent bass sways and radiant Rhodes piano that's oh so ripe for summer.

Henry Wu “Dubplate Special” - Boiler Room Debuts

Prime Numbers do a great trade in remixes. Recently the likes of O B Ignitt, Roman Flügel and XDB have come up with repackaged goods for the label; now it's Vril's turn. Relatively speaking, it's less menacing and wanton than some other Vril out – still propulsive and sharp techno, but forming a neat counterpoint with Nick Sinna's original, rather than steamrolling straight through it.

Both "Black Rose"s can be yours when PN30 arrives on August 31st.

Back in May, we Debuted a track called "Just"; you might just have heard of it. @feelmybicep are no strangers to breakout belters, but even by their standards this one has been picking up a heap of plaudits. So naturally we're more than willing to help facilitate their next step toward world domination, especially given as it arrives via their own cherished namesake imprint.

This, the title track from another forthcoming collaborative release with Hammer (an artist the Belfast boys are putting serious muscle behind) is equally tense and beguiling. It hooks you in from the word go, with a nagging piano lead, ooft-y mini breakdown and shiver-inducing sirensong calling through the mist. Close your eyes and you can imagine "Dahlia" laying waste to festival stages – oh wait, that actually did actually happen at Bicep's homecoming BR. Go figure.

50WEAPONS has finally hit the ceiling. A full decade after the Modeselektor dudes first drunkenly conjured up the concept, the label is due to run its course; but, true to form, not without a bang. Having embarked on an unassailable run since the turn of the decade – especially important in joining the dots between Dettmann and Dark Sky at a time when those two seemed worlds apart – releases #40-50 somehow look even stronger than their recent past. And, as a special treat, we'll be bringing you one Debut a week from October 5th until the end of the year to bid them a fitting farewell.

You've got familiar faces in Shed and Phon.o sitting alongside debutants like Zenker Brothers and Rødhåd, plus (duh) the Monkeytown men themselves. "50 Trees", featuring moody dub vet Paul St. Hilaire on the flip, will be the very last Weapon cut to wax: dense, foreboding and somewhat like staggering into the unknown – which makes sense for obvious reasons.

Seeing as we're right in the middle of the UK's carnival season, there couldn't be a more suited time to tease the debut LP from Zed Bias, Specialist Moss, Killa Benz & Trigga's Madd Again! project. Coming out on Manchester's Swing Ting, MaddTing Vol. 1 sees Zed build 10 unmistakably British bashment heaters decorated with menacing patois flows and a firey feature from Flowdan.

Madd Again! "Move, Skank & Wine" - Boiler Room Debuts

The first Musik For Autobahns was a delight: softly-softly ambient and subtle cuts from the likes of Move D, Suzanne Kraft, Roman Flügel and plenty more besides. Even amongst Rush Hour's bounty that year, it stood proudly out. A ripple of excitement went through BR HQ upon finding out Gerd Janson was lining up a second, with no shortage of marquee signings all coming correct with their A game.

A number of heads come together to translate these thoughts into sound - from Fort Romeau's Drive-esque "Seleno" joyride through to the propulsive "Melancholy" of Disco Nihilist. Perhaps none elicit as many feels as the enveloping opener from Leon Vynehall though.

As well as being a mesmeric mimic of accelerating down Bundesautobahn 5 at daybreak, "Midnight on Rainbow Road" got our Debut nod for three main reasons: firstly, it kicked off last year's sublime set from Gerd & Ata (so, about time); second, it's a welcome return for Mr Vynehall after a richly deserved breakout year; third, dude's got previous with N64 titling. And that's something we can all get behind.

Leon Vynehall "Midnight On Rainbow Road" - Boiler Room Debuts

Mørbeck makes mighty meaty material. That much is clear, but what's also pretty cool is that he chooses to do it on his own terms. Beyond a loosie here and there, like the M_REC 12" from this year, he opts to release on own-brand labels, Code Is Law included.

The hourlong double EP T.R.I.P.S. is Mørbeck's most comprehensive statement to date – and, for our money, the best yet. "Virgin Suicide" is uncommonly brash, winching its way towards a killer bait 'n switch in the final third, but still retaining enough of the robust techno to mark it as definably his.

Codeislaw008 drops Sept 10th. You'd do wisely to bag on sight.

Mørbeck "Virgin Suicide" - Boiler Room Debuts

Producer and host of NTS Radio's 72 Nations show, @CKtrl introduces a very different side to his sound from the lo-fi sound we Debuted last year. His forthcoming release will be a self-released double A-side EP, including "Misc" as its opener (an Aa-side, if you must). This track stands out, gleaming in its refined sound, itching to be played on a bigger, louder soundsystem, thus proving that CKtrl has got range in abundance. A comprehensive follow-up to his previous Follow EP.

CKtrl "Misc" - Boiler Room Debuts

Osaka-based Erik Luebs is next up for Project Mooncircle. Although we don't know much about him, this latest project has a clear M.O: Absolute Presence is all about losing connection with the physical world and exploring a much deeper place within your mind. Suitably, "Losing It" has a real meditative charm about it - wafting, airy pads suspended above fluffy percussive movements. Things get a tad grittier towards the two-minute mark, but it's more fuzzy warmth than outright scuzz.

Absolute Presence comes out worldwide on limited coloured vinyl on September 22nd.

Erik Luebs "Losing It" - Boiler Room Debuts

A true king of timbres, John Roberts continues making the earthliest electronic music, to which "Orah" is no exception. The title track from Roberts' forthcoming EP illustrates his comprehensive style of building percussive samples into unique, beautifully harmonious music – with subtle tastes of the Orient in this particular example. A mesmerising follow-up to the three diverse tracks of last year's Ausio EP, and one of our favourite albums from 2013, Fences. John Roberts has still got it, and in abundance at that!

So far, From Them Depths has prided itself on the beautifully oddball side of electronica. Or as head honcho, Charles Drakeford, summed up, these are the records "that you put in not knowing when exactly it might work. But then when you’re looking for something to take a set in a different direction it’s there ready and waiting". Lutto Lento took a brave left step into the esoteric realms on FTD001, while Niagara's two-tracker follow up sounded like a golden-era Can demo reel.

Release número tres is again, mesmerically out there — a split release by two brothers from Paris: Elzéard and Moana. The former grapples the reins on the A side with "Cosmic Dust" acting as fulcrum between A1 and A3. It's appropriately cosmos-reaching in its timbre; built open driving four-four and cushiony pad synths that are eventually aided by tincan percussion prods. It's efficient and stimulating in simplicity, just like the accompanying video by Sasha Litvintseva. Go taste the rainbow.

Elzéard "Cosmic Dust" - Boiler Room Debuts

Here’s a dude and a label you don’t know just yet, so allow us to make a formal introduction for the pair. Decka is a young Bristolian producer-DJ; SPE:C is a new Berlin imprint. All acquainted, all familiar? Good stuff.

“002” is a slab of stomping, heavyweight techno that belies Decka’s relatively fresh face. Taking cues from all the right people – Randomer, Matrixxman, early Objekt – and shot through with a particular kind of 4am-in-a-barebrick-tunnel rave SFX (the decidedly Wachowskian green cover art says it all really), it’s a serious statement of intent.

Line those pre-orders up this way. The full release is out on Sept 25th.

As well as being a comprehensive producer and DJ, Rolando's weighty resumé is also filled out by his former association with Underground Resistance, ownership of the R3 imprint, and a Berghain residency. It therefore doesn't come as a surprise that his opener on the remix EP of Anton Pieete's "The News" should be this much of a certified head-turner. Bearing a strong allegiance to its musical pedigree, both original and rework shine in their orthodoxy of modern techno. Going slightly deeper than Pieete may have dared to, Rolando reincarnates "The News" into a choppy underground churner to ignite any darkened dancefloor.

This new Henning Baer is, in short, a delicious double threat. The bouncing beat never truly relents, while a spacey synth does swirly business in the back. Unlike John Osborn's delightfully-monikered TANSTAAFL imprint (best Ask Jeeves if you're confused), we're not entirely sure what "Shopping In Jail" means. But if it's half as fun as this, we're all in. Oh and incidentally, Mr Baer himself might just be making a return to our screens soon – keep eyes peeled.

Gemini arrives September 7th. Don't steal it, though.

Good jazz-funk has no sell-by-date. And as A Band Called Flash prove ever so fruitfully, it never fails to cause a spirited head nod at the very least. Exec produced by Ron Trent and Jonesy, 'Mother Confessor' is the work of artist, writer and producer Jared Hines — and boy, does it half whiff of your favourite Atmosfear record or the alternative disco sounds of Arthur Russell's Dinosaur L. Any of the EP's five offerings could have ended up on our page today, but it's "Mother Confessor", the gliding opener that wins the ballot this time. Sensuous in all the right places.

A Band Called Flash "Mother Confessor" - Boiler Room Debuts

Now and again, we get Debut considerations from relatively unknown propositions that are absolutely worth pushing in spite of minimal 'status'. Spousal duo Lejsovka & Freund (FKA Trouble Books if you're up on your Ohioan experimental folk) are a solid example.

They paint pink-hued textural brushstrokes, set low drones to hover in the air, let piano lines gracefully unspool – and don't exactly shout about it themselves. So we're more than happy to help. If you're after some patient, pretty listening for the onrushing autumn, their new LP Fatal Strategies (featuring similarly genteel soul CFCF on fretless bass (yes, genuinely)) could well be for you. It'll be available in October, worth making the effort to seek out.

Lejsovka & Freund "Nothing, Just Looking at the Moon" - Boiler Room Debuts

If you happened to jump into Ben UFO's magnificent set from our recent Dekmantel x IR takeover in Barcelona, this Mosca gem will sound familiar. The Hessle Audio guru slides "White Mice" into play early on, much to the delight of those two-stepping in the BG. Those cascading tom-toms lurk ever so neatly below the drum machine's uniform clamour; that throbbing, Doomsday-like dub effect irks its way in intermittently — a steady roller of the highest order, custom made for the dawn of any set. Catch this — the fourth release to come from Mosca's very own Not So Much label — when it arrives on November 23rd.

Ransom Note's recent signing Bawrut has been making a bit of a name for himself. His debut Ciquita, which was released earlier this year, has already been devoured by the likes of Jackmaster, Optimo and Boys Noize like a crazed bunch of acid fiends, and the summer season happened to be super fruitful for the Madrid based, Italian born tune-wrangler. We know, intense. It's a piping hot acidic screamer specially crafted for peak times on the dance floor and you get to listen to it right here, right now.

"Rumba" is taken from The Rumba EP, which will be released on Ransom Note Records as a 12" on November 22. His debut EP Ciquita sold out instantly, so don't sleep — you can preorder the album using the 'Buy' link.

Bawrut "Rumba" - Boiler Room Debuts

Fresh new Bristol-based label @piff-records open their doors armed with a slew of gleaming, steaming hot wax. We got our mitts on the new To Adelaide EP featuring a compilation of fine Australian talent. Out highlight comes as "Jessica's Place", which offers nothing less than pure smouldering synth-house heaven from (fairly) newcomer @arthurmilesmusic.

Though still relatively unknown across the pond, Arthur has funnily enough already made his Boiler Room debut, as part of the Untzz 12 Inch showcase last April. With his newness on Piff, expect the distinct, dreamscape sound that fellow house producers down under have worked hard to establish (for more, see: Mall Grab and Francis Inferno Orchestra). A clean track with an ever-so-slightly futuristic sound that is sure to grab your attention — as it did with ours. Give it a spin.

Arthur Miles "Jessica's Place" - Boiler Room Debuts

The phrase 'one-of-a-kind' perhaps gets thrown around too much these days, but those that already know Auntie Flo (née Brian D'Souza) will join me in saying this is no overstatement. Building a reputation for having one of the most sonically eclectic and captivating live shows, and the revered ability to combine acoustic and electronic elements like no other, Auntie Flo has been excelling at his own game for a minute now.

And now, Auntie Flo is back with a new EP to feed our hungry souls with his beats inspired the sounds of the universe. This project, already with Four Tet's backing, is the product of D'Souza's yearning to share his love of traditional African rhythms, and a wish to bring them to the world's stage. Here, he employs an impressive array of session musicians and a Ugandan ten-string harp, recording it all at the Santuri Studios as part of the Ugandan Bayimba arts festival in Kamapala last year.

"Rainfall on Red Earth" is available in its full 16-minute beauty as part of The Soniferous Garden EP, which will be released in full exclusively on vinyl by Sofrito early next year.
